      Oh ...... From A* to C5 or C6 ... scary ....

the gap between primary and secondary school chinese is quite wide

This certainly sounds very, very scary. So, someone who usually gets a B would get a F then! :([/quote]I meant A* for Normal Chinese to C5 /C6 for HMT.

It's indeed quite tough for HMT, especially with all the 诗歌 and stuff. Compo writing style is also very different from primary school. I remembered they are already required to read and understand 冰心散文 in their first term. Besides, they have to do summary, journal and 成语听写every week.

Based on last few years' PSLE statistics, abt 80% of the cohort get A/A* for Chinese, the rest of the 20% get B and below. To be honest, I feel those who score B for PSLE Chinese will feel the stress and is going to be tough, especially when most of the students actually took HMT in primary school. 😞 Having said that, there are always exception! 😄

I'll keep this in mind when it's time for secondary school selection after the PSLE results are out. 😉

Yes, in year 2, they have to memorise many 宋词. 但願人長久 still OK because there is modern song on it but majority of the 宋词 are old old chinese tunes. No easy way, just have to 死背 😞

Also have to do chinese newspaper review 剪报, range from 400 words to 1000 words.

It's regarding the new P ... Heard that teachers are leaving as they disagree with him. Did you hear anything from your kids? Is he very different from the previous P? Also heard that he's not the kind and caring type ...
I can only tell from student's view - actually he is a very kind and caring person. His expectation is very high and maybe mislead to unreasonable. From teacher's view, I cannot make any comments.

                    Hi Daisyt

                    Noted with thanks.

Don’t think dd is likely to take HCL. Nevertheless I would still let her enjoy and have a feel of all these 宋词 or 古典名著 etc as far as time permitted and within my capability. Her 成语is quite ok as she has very strong interest toward it. Hopefully she will benefit in the long run.

Oh, that's good to know. I've been getting negative feedback from secondary school teachers from other schools. His reputation isn't good with teachers.

Just curious ... isn't it compulsory to take HCL once your child is in RV? Can you actually opt out? My son loves memorizing 成语 and reading 古典名著 but not sure if he can do reviews, since he has never done them before. It'll be good if they are given a choice on whether to take HCL.
