      The hope for gold from sailing is gone with the wind. Just watch in news, he is dropped to 6 after today. Tmrw is the final day for sailing.

      Most unfortunate. 😞

        Way2GO:

        It is just a token of recognition for all athletes' families

        n shouldn't differentiate between d haves n have-nots.

        Yes I agree it shouldnt be if rich you wont get tickets and if not rich you will get.. it should be appreciation for the athelete to participate and thats why giving maybe 2 tickets to their family member
        IMHO :celebrate:

        Don't disagree with the concept, but the example of an athlete with hawker parents was used to bolster the case for giving free tickets. If the idea is one of appreciation, then whether one's parents are poor is not a consideration.

        Sorry, don't mean to be-labour this, but as usually occurs, a position is taken (give free tickets/subsidised tickets to relatives of athletes), then a reason is brought up to support this, then rebutted, then another reason is brought up, rebutted again, then we go back to reason 1, and from different posters.

        2 different issues;

        1) Should relatives of YOG athletes be given free tickets out of appreciation for their participation? Perhaps, perhaps not. If so, then the cost cited by Lynette Ng ($1200) should not be a factor, it should not even be raised. YOG athletes should receive 2 free tickets for each match they attend, to be given to relatives. Plain and simple.

        2) On the other hand, is the issue around the cost of the tickets and the ability for some parents to pay? If the decision is made that YOG athletes will NOT be receiving free tickets, but we want to help the disadvantaged parents, then absolutely we need to be applying a means test before hand out freebies.

        Don't want to come across as argumentative, but we need to be clear which issue we are dealing with.

                    The Singapore boys' under-15 football team showed tremendous character to bounce back from their semi-final defeat to Haiti by blitzing Montenegro 4-1 Wednesday to bag the bronze medal at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

                    In front of thousands of fans at Jalan Besar Stadium, Mohd Hanafi struck two goals, with a Suhaimi Muhaimin header and a Mazlan Amirul penalty rounding off the goal bonanza.

                    Well Done ! Young Lions !! :celebrate:
