Self tutor or Outsource??

I think the Tripartite-effort is important - Parents-Tutors-Teachers ( as in the school teacher)


Even with outsourcing, if parents do not monitor or follow up on the enrichment/tuition classes .. it would be a waste of effort.

So Teacher Teaches .. Tutors Enriches .. Parents Monitors .. :celebrate:

Couldn't agree more. Parents must take active involvement in children's studies.

I prefer to outsource during preschool years. Once they acquired the necessary foundation - can read can multiply, I take over. Although I still send them for enrichments, it's more to enrich & stimulate rather than tuition. No tuition for them since they already have me as their designated full time tutor

Actually, for a tutor to be able to produce results, he/she has to not only teach the content & exam techniques but also motivate the kids to do well.
Learning attitude is more important than ability. Once they believe that they can do it & want to do it, they will.

All things boils down to the attitude of that person, and the influence they had from those around/close to him/her.

Parenting is really a trial and error path....

One of the reasons why I quit my job and become a SAHM is because I wanna self tutor my 2 kids. By Self tutoring, I am able to understand the strength and weakness of my children as well as their learning pattern. #1 is slow, but not stupid, she’s just lacking the confidence and being being a visual learner, I have to draw/write out my explanation before she can understand. #2 is a fast learner, but very very careless and sometimes too complacent. As they are very different learners, I have learnt to work with them differently.


After spending 2 years with them, I have decided to outsource some of the teaching to tuition center. As I have a new baby to look after, I find it quite difficult to monitor and coach them closely like what I did in the past. Another reason is that I am finding myself losing patience easily.

So far, I only sent my #1 to English tuition. When she goes P3 next year, I will send her to Maths tuition as well, I doubt I can handle Maths and Science together. As for #2, she is coping fine except for her Chinese. But I am not too concerned at this stage as she has told me she likes Chinese even though she is weak at it. I guess there is still hope as long as she is still keen in that subject. I am more concerned abt her Maths. For some reasons, she dislikes Maths, even though she can score well.

My friend who is a psychiatrist and life coach says:" No one takes a greater interest in your child more so than yourself."


She has 3 children, 2 DDs and a new baby DS, her DDs are both autistic and she tutors them herself.

I think this is because she knows their personalities best and also because they proved to be a challenge for "regular tutors".

I have also heard of another saying \"The whole world can give up hope on your child but not you!\".
