Hey...i agree with Turquiose...i know that NYGH also interview GEP students if necessary (refer to their DSA FAQ website)... they only skip the GAT as they are GEP already!


Anyway... i think most of us here are all kind of speculating only...let's wait for the outcome of DSA for some of us here concerned.
Those children who got gd news and hv gained entry. :celebrate: In some ways i personally believe they must have some attributes that suits the DSA school needs. And though i myself can only hope for the best for my DD's DSA to NYGH until then...i will hv absolutely no clear idea the req'mt lo.

Any way....still i must say :celebrate: to those kids who somehow got in ... again i believe (i posted b4) they must hv some attributes that DSA want. If my girl cant get in..so be it ...use PSLE to try lor what to do?...because the whole selection is a \"mystery\" only known to the DSA schools. Finally Let's relax everybody...and respect everyone's view here... it's a sharing forum and not a \"stressful forum yo

How will our children (applied by academic Non GEP) be notified about the outcome since the checking of NYGH DSA status may not be accurate?

b) Will NYGH at least notify those not successful ?

NYGH will notify successful applicants via a phone call or via a letter of confirmation by postal mail (NOT email).

I don't know if they will notify unsuccessful applicants or if you'll only find out when MOE mails out forms.

NYGH said that they have informed all the successful candidates' parents by last week. So I guessed those who have not received means 'reject' or 'wait list'??? Anyway, all applicants will get the status via postal mail by end August, whether successful or not.

I advise Just KP to read the 'All about GEP' forum to understand why we need this programme. Also, the PSLE is an exam that mainstream primary sch goers spend their pri sch yrs preparing for and it is viewed as a reliable gauge on how to further stream these kids into sec sch. Most mainstream pupils will hv to face the 'O' levels n a small % will get to go the IP route. For the GEPers, these kids do not need to prove to JustKP whether they are truly gifted, or whether they will do well in the PSLE or 'A' Levels because if this is the GEP's aim then it will be shallow and a waste of education funding. IP schs hv the resources and facilities to further nurture these gifted kids, tt is why at least 80% of each GEP cohort will gain entry to a sec sch via DSA. The ultimate destination for a gifted child is to be a self-learner on a life-long journey of learning in the field of his passion.

For all pupils who make it to a succesful 'A' levels via the DSA or otherwise, through rote-learning or independent learning, through self-mugging or expensive tutoring, when they reach the top of the education ladder, i hope that they will find their passion and calling in life.

So i hope Just KP will see the big picture and not let this supposed DSA unfairness cloud his/her understanding in this matter.

I totally agree! As a mum of a gepgal, I witness her constance struggle to shake off the \"gepper\" branding, trying hard to bland in with the mainstream and training harder than anyone else in the CCA. I would not share such negative \"bashing\" with her.
I think all the gep students deserev a pat on their shoulders as they have taken a tougher path than their peers.
Even she has got a placing via dsa, I advise her to work hard for psle to prove that she is not taking a short cut. Its only a new beging, the learning journey is still long, as parents, we should enourage and support all children as the exams draw closer.

Totally agreed with NatTif Mummy and naggo-nitemare. This forum is set up for parents to support and help each other, not fingers pointing. It is sad to see a few parents who know little about GEP program to complain about the system. The school work load for GEP kid is very heavy. They deserve some credits as they are giving up a lot of their childhood play time to complete the GEP program. There are a lot of things that a DSA school is looking for when they are making their selections, not just GAT score. They know the kind of tough training that GEP kids have been through and their strength. Most of the GEP kids are very independent when it comes to project. Please note that there is minimum teaching in GEP program (when it comes to ERM and projects) - teachers will leave the kids to read and solve problems by themselves. They have to go to library or internet to find material and solutions. They learn to work as a team (planning and lot of meetings after school) and do presentation in very professional way. Do you think all these skills can be tested in GAT or shown on PSLE result? Not quite. But I believe these are the important skills that a DSA school is looking for.

I agree. The training the GEP kids receive in their project & daily work makes them independent learners and more suited for the IP route. This is what the IP schools look out for during their DSA selection process. It is not just results, but aptitude and attitude.

I was at the Open House of one of Singapore's premier schools (not IP). The Principal said that you should choose IP schools only if you are a GEP student or someone who's an independent learner and capable of doing project work. Otherwise, the IP route is not for you.

But then within IP schools, they split their students between GEP and mainstream. Majority of students got into RI, RGS, etc actually thru PSLE route doing fine.
