My hubby studied in The Chinese High and i understand that The Chinese High is Affiliated to Nanyang Girls’ High School which is in addition affiliated to Nanyang Primary. So if i were to enrol my daughter, which phase will she be in? πŸ™‚

We are wondering why the press are making a big deal....and meanwhile we have run up 7 pages of posts?

Unless you are in this P1 registration probably cannot feel
how anxious parents are in this period....
Imagine you are a parent who have done PV and did not even get
into the school you PV ....surely you will 😒 :frustrated:

Errr.....I have PVed and endured the anxiety like everyone else.

To answer your question, it's best to give you an overview of the current P1 registration phases.

These are the phases and eligibility

Phase 1 - To qualify must already have sibiling in the PRIMARY school.

Phase 2A(1) - Parent is a former student and alumni member of the PRIMARY school alumni association. But must join at least 2 yrs before child is in P1. OR parent is a member of the School Advisory / Management Committee

Phase 2A(2) - Sibling or Parent is a former student of the PRIMARY school OR parent is staff of the PRIMARY school.

Phase 2B - Parent who is a Parent Volunteer of the PRIMARY school. Different schools have different dateline for Parent Volunteer, so better to check early with school of choice to find out how soon should you apply in respect to the year that your child is born. OR Parent is a member of clan/church connected with the PRIMARY school OR Parent is a grassroot leader, this is by GRC. So if you are not living within the GRC in which the school is situated, it will not help.

Phase 2C - For parents who are not eligible for the above phases OR for parents who are not successful in Phase 2B

Phase 2C supplementary - For parents who are not successful in their application in their school of choice in Phase 2C.

Phase 2B and Phase 2C will share equally the remaining vacancies at the end of Phase 2A2. In your case, affiliation has no impact on P1 registration because eligibility in the earlier phase of Phase 2A only works if the parent had studied in the particular PRIMARY school. So you will end up in Phase 2C if you are not a member of the School Advisory / Management Committee(Phase 2A1) or you are not Parent Volunteer of the school, or grassroots leader or or member of clan/church connected to the school (all under Phase 2B).

In current situation so far, there's balloting under Phase 2B and Phase 2C because number of application exceed number of vacancies. When this happen, the distance criteria becomes important. Priority will be given to those living <1km then follow by 1-2 km and lastly >2km

If there are 40 vacancies for Phase 2B or Phase 2C. This is what will happen

<1km has 20 applicants, all will be accepted.

1-2km has 10 applicants, all will be accepted.

          >2km has 20 applicants, balloting will be conducted for this group, Singaporean has 2 ballot slips and PR has 1 ballot slip.

BUT if <1km has more than 40 applicants, balloting will be conducted for this group and those who lived 1km or more will have no chance at all.

Chinese High is not affiliated to NYGH. Girls from NYGH goes to HCI for year 5 & 6 after sec four.

Alumni of Chinese High has no priority in NYPS because they are not affiliated. You need to be alumni of NYPS to be eligible for alumni priority Phase 2A2.

There is no 'backward' affiliation from Chinese High to NYGH to NYPS

Seems like only SCGS and MGS(secondary) has backward affiliation to the primary schools. I am not sure St Nics or Catholic High has that as well.

vks2010, can I confirm that NYGH has no backward affiliation to NYPS? TIA

NYPS girls get a discount off their PSLE scores if they opt for NYGH. Their COP for entry into NYGH is 250.

                    St. Nick’s is also a full-school.

The way the whole issue is being presented seems to make HPPS a 2nd choice, a 'not as good school' as the 'top' NYPS. Hmmm .... Anyway, being in a better than average school is only the beginning of a long learning journey. How well a child does really depends on a lot of other factors. So, really, we as parents should not get carried away. πŸ™‚

HPPS was also our 2nd choice (and nobody will make a deal cos I am no celebrity ;p) simply it does not have affiliation. HPPS need not always be first choice for many...

ITA with the above post about beginning of a long journey and child's aptitude... as my daughter nears the end of the primary school journey, I learn something. IF the children are capable, make it worth their while in HPPS and aim for the top classes (not necessarily GEP) cos then getting into a 'good' secondary school (that means only express stream schools for me) is more or less guaranteed, subject to the child's performance. JMHO based on my observation past 6yos...
