Wow... This is a fiery thread!

Hmmm, brings me back to all those years ago... Woo hoo... The atmosphere when we met in competitions and matches! Actually it was very shiok, now that i look back. There has always been rivalry between these two schools, but it used to be much much friendlier rivalry. If the rivalry is more intense now, i can understand it if (prospective?) parents are behaving like chest thumping, errrrrrrrrr, mammals  trying to outdo each other. Chill lah, you all. Imagine if your kids behave like this when talking about THAT other school. :scared:

hi cayennepepper, which school were you from? i was from HCJC (at my time, HCI & HCJC were seperate schools) and my DH was from RI (but many batches before me, luckily!!) so no rivalry leh :imanangel:

Hiya firefly, I was from HCJC, in the post 危ζ₯Ό days.
Actually, in those days, it was not exactly RJC vs HCJC. More of NJC vs HCJC. I remembered a lot of SAP school students were choosing between the 2 JCs and NJC was producing much better \"A\" Level results at that time compared with now.

ya, we called each other \"the college across the canal\".. and we took bus at the same bus-stop.. but no hostility, just friendly competition in those days πŸ˜„

No la, not the same bus-stop - 1 bus stop down. NJC was nearer to Chinese High at that time - just small lane next to Dunern. I still remembered when it flooded, we all had to walk to school in knee-high water level.

I observed a general decline in the A level results of RI in the last three years. The number of 3/4 H2 distinctions, 6 or more distinctions, 7 or more distinctions etc… I can’t comment on HCI since they don’t release much of the data. But the gap between HCI and RI with 7 or more distinctions are closing up. I guess this is because more schools are going IP and good students are more spread out instead of concentrating in this two JCs. I’ll be curious to see the next two years.

pen88n, were you were from NJC? i used to see NJCians at the bus-stop opposite HCJC (directly opposite Chinese High & on the same side as NJC) so thot it was the same bus-stop. i even made friend with a NJC student as both of us took bus all the way fom bukit timah to bukit merah bus terminus (long journey so started to chat on the bus)! πŸ˜„ those were the days.. nostalgia.. :please:

Yep, I'm from NJC. Yes, it is the bus stop directly opposite Chinese High. I thot HCJC students usually use the bus-stop at Watten estate? Isn't that nearer to the HCJC campus? And yes, we saw a lot of HCJC students on the same bus at that time.....

oh, there were 2 entrances/exits to HCJC. the one beside Chinese High was the main entrance (i used that most of the time when going home).. the other one was the side entrance near the canteen (one bus-stop away from NJC), where late-comers would choose to use to avoid being caught (i used that most of the time when going to school)! :siam:

                        verykiasu2010:

                        Intake size : 15 classes x 30 = 450

GEP class : 7 class x 30 = 210 (include in each class some mainstream high scorers, 3 or 4 or 5 per class)

                        the rest = mainstream pupils

DSA allocation = 50% = max 225 places; does not mean they will fill up to 225 at DSA; they may fill up to eg 150, if not enough deserving candidates, and the balance goes to S1 pool for S1 posting

DSA places are not governed by supply and demand; and there is no rule to fill up all the allocated places for DSA; and RI has 100% full discretion to decide how places to give out during DSA.

Only S1 posting is based on \"supply & demand\" in determining the lowest entry point (t-score cut off point)

Since RI have so many more classes of GEPers ( 😎 than HCI (3), so does it means that it would be more difficult to get into RI than HCI via DSA or S1 posting ?

Presumably the GEPers would have gone in via DSA route and that will limit the number of spaces available to mainstream.

Never realise that getting a space in RI is so tough leh. Really 佩服 those parents who got their kids into RI. θ™ŽηˆΆζ— ηŠ¬ε!
