:please: It's nice of you to do the P1(2012) compilation list. Parents with P2-P6 kids must be very busy and stressed during this exams period. -
DS is in House Colour : Matthew.

Thanks Scary!ALL THE BEST TO THOSE TAKING THEIR PSLE in 2011! JIA YOU!!
Extracted from a fren's post in FB:
\"To all candidates of PSLE 2011,
After 6 years of your life, you have come to this important crossroad. The piles of homework, worksheets and assessment books; time spent having tuition and classes; scoldings and nagging endured will all come down to your performance in the next 5 days. So please if possible, take Vit Cs, drink loads of water, take good nights rest, eat proper meals, prepare your stationery early, if not for yourself then for those who have loved you, supported you and encouraged you. I wished that you will be able to recall all the things you have studied and learned.
To all my students, know that I will be praying for you while you are doing your paper. So check til the last minute, 6 years of your life is worth those extra tens of minutes of checking your answers.
Be blessed\"
Let's Pray that ALL our P6 Do Themselves, and the Sch Proud this Year!

I think it is ok for parents to learn what their children are learning at sch since the syllabus has changed quite a bit since we left pri sch. To me, this is a form of getting involved. The key is not to be over zealous and start to DIY at home such that the child becomes a \"know it all\", gets bored in sch and worst case, interrupts the class.
Aiyoh janet, Rome is not built in one day mah. The dimino effect will also need some time to get watered down. In a gigantic organisation like MOE, it may take many years before we see changes. Let's give our minister a chance.janet_lee88:
Hi mummies and daddies,
Did you read the forum article in ST about this parent who wrote about the irony of role reversal today ? MOE wants to instill character building when so many parents have gone back to school bcos of coaching kids in their studies. I've been scratching my head wondering what is going on in the mind of the newly minted minister. If the aim is to build character, does MOE have to drill the kids so badly ??
Personally, I'm sceptical how successful this new initiative about being less academic focus will be. As your post stated, nowadays we even have parents going to the extent to attend lessons so that they can coach their kids. It doesn't get more competitive than this. Wait, maybe when someone sends the maid to attend lessons, then a new era of 'competitiveness' will ensue. :faint:
Before I sent my children to their first day in P1, I gave them a good piece of advice: Mum does not know phonics or HYPY and hv lost touch with Maths & Science, you hv better pay attention in class to learn whatever the teacher teaches. Dun expect me to know how to help you in your sch work. U must learn & teach me so that we can work tge in case you really dunno know.
And dun think Dad can help you either.
This same advice was dished out to my elder boy when he started sec sch.
I believe we cant let the children think they can depend on someone to help out all the time. Coaching/tuition has to end someday. Just my 2cts worth. ( Sadly I dun see my elder boy ending his CL tuition anytime soon. I was told that his sec sch CL teacher is ... ) -
