Today filled up CCA form (indicated 1st choice as ELDDS & 2nd as Cross Country) and the outcome should be known quite soon. -

I fully agree with you. Kids these days are so addicted with Facebook, U Tube etc. Actually, by using iPADs in class, the teachers will also be exposed to 'threats' as they will need to be very mindful of their actions and words. Students can video tape them in action and upload them into internet. If the students abuse their rights, there will be complications. That was one of the reason why most schools prohibit the use of handphone in class. Kids these days are not easy to manage and discipline.

There were students video recording using their handphones during the YR2 iPAD Parents' Briefing, thus, all the shouting and arguing were recorded. Most recorded the session for their parents, but if someone were to publicize it, it'll be bad publicity for RV! -
personally i think ipad thingy is for entertainment, may be used by kindergarten or primary school, like a big iphone without telephone function, it is not suitable for secondary school students, like documentation etc. A computer is better. I actually bought a netbook (10-inch, $300) after PSLE for my daughter, thinking that the sec school will request for it…can do Word, Power Point, Excel (with free open office). Period.
Parents, does your child have enough time to rest? my dt gets up 5:30am, and goes to bed after 10:30pm. I’m worry about the long term effect… -

iBooks textbooks for iPad makes it easier for publishers to publish books and for the public to buy textbooks. There is also a new iBooks author for anyone including teachers and students to create books, and iTuneU for anyone to take online courses.
I personally think that RV has made a right choice to choose iPad instead of Macbook Air or netbook or nothing. Technology is always a double-edged sword. I believe many parents (including me) still have concerns about students addicted to FB, games, video, etc on their iPad. But, we should not just look at the negative side. iPad can change the way students learn. It is more engaging and interactive.
To me, RV has 2 options:
The first option is not to introduce iPad and everything will be status quo. Let other schools introduce first and learn from their experience. Then, they don't have to answer all the questions that parents have.
The other option is to introduce iPad. Then they have to upgrade their infrastructure, train the teachers to use iPad to teach, tighten the school security, answers all the questions from parents, solve all the teething problems, etc and etc. It is definitely a more challenging option.
RV decided to implement iPad program and they have explained the reasons for that. They envision that it is how learning will be in the 21st century. They want to train students to adapt to new technology. There is no way we can stop the technology from advancing. I think as parents, we should support such program which will benefit our children.
For parents who want to see how iPad can help in learning (although RV may not implement the same thing), I will encourage you to spend 1 hour of your time to watch the video below.

I woried about that too but this seems unavoidable. The higher you go, the shorter the sleeping hours. The only thing is to let them have more sleep and rest on weekend. If by any chance or luck when there is a day or so with lesser work, dd would sleep as early as possible.

I said RV likes to try new things. I believe they may have developed some contents which use ipad. It shouldn't be using ipad for the sake of using it. The content should be innovative too...for example maybe 3-D modelling of difficult concepts which is very hard to explain bywords or 2-D drawing on books like gene which is a double helix etc...
