River Valley High School [*IP]

WeiHan/rosecy
It took me several months to gather from individual schools and students. Like a market research project.
OK, no more answering this question. -
rosecy:
I guess there are drop out and some decided to join other IP schools like HCI in year 4 or year 5. The cohort number should gradually increase for subsequent batches as the school stabilizes.WeiHan:
RV cohort is 343, not 430.
just my estimate of 400 intake at Year 1 + 30 PRC scholars at Year 3.
343....probably lower intake at Year 1 for that batch. think RV were holding at queensway then? -
Dear Parents,
I am a parent too, I have kids too.
Why all the fuss about ranking, cohort sizing, iPad, ++++
It is rather disappointing to see so much fuss created over RV’s projection on the iPad programme.
Parents are the key "driver" whom put up their kids in top schools, not the kids themselves ask for it nor demand for it.
Parents complain for the act that they themselves had enacted upon, this is rather a very sad story.
Try to put yourself in the shoes of being just a RV student or teacher … simply think thru’ over it and revisit what you had jus’ contemplated.
Reflect on your queries, concern, issues voiced +++
Who started it in the first place, … it’s you … parents …
Jus’ reflect upon it … thanks -

A Sec 2 student, who witnessed what happened but declined to be named, said: \"There was a parent who kept shouting and interrupting even when the principal was trying to explain things to him.
\"There was another parent who did not back down in spite of having her questions answered.\"
The student added that the situation grew so tense that the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) head allegedly said: \"If you don't trust that the school is trying to help your children in their learning, then don't participate in the programme or take them out of the school.\"
When asked about the matter, Mr Koh said the male parent \"wasn't asking questions\", but was opposing what he was saying.
As for the PTA head, who is a parent volunteer with the school, Mr Koh said she had made the remarks as she was \"upset and disturbed\".

Wow, I did not know some parents are so against it!
Talk about progressing with technology.
I, for one, would be glad if my kids' school implement the system.
The main thing is to educate and educate them about the risks of internet and addiction to games. Other than that, we just have to let nature take its course. -
A few online shops area available for purchases of iPad2 at lower than Apple price anyway. As iPad is already a well know product, the extra Apple protection plan is not necessary.

\"Why is the school giving me additional things to do?\"

I think a lot of parents also felt that the discount given is not good enough, everyone knows that price of ipad2 will certainly drop soon and if the sch is ordering in such a big bulk, they should negotiate for a lower price. -
Something I would like to point out from the report.
Notice that RV wasn’t chosen as one of the Future schools to test classroom technology but it is entirely RV’s own initiative.
I don’t know about you but I see this kind of spirit very rare in Singapore nowaday.
