Scoliosis Treatment with Kevin Lau
-
After much deliberation between spinecor and Dr Kevin Lau, I decided to give Dr Kevin Lau a try.
Apparently his package for 12 sessions is $2500 and the 3 month package is $4500 or $4800.
Grace and Faith, let me know when you will be starting your daughters’ treatment.
And Good Luck -
Hi Sammifan, Thanks for the info. All the best for your girl’s treatment too. Is your girl still going for check ups at HPB? Did Dr Lau mention how many x-rays will be taken? My elder girl who wore the brace for 3 yrs had to take x ray every time she goes for checkup and I am worried about that.

Hi Grace and Faith,
We have not gone to see Dr Kevin Lau yet but will go this week.
How long has your daughter been wearing the brace and is it the hard type? Any improvement?
My daughter was not identified by HPB. I think they missed her cos her top curve is not so bad but the curve at the bottom is quite bad at about 30 degrees.
She went to SGH and they said X ray to be done every 6 months during reviews.
She’s been going for chiropractic treatment since 2 years ago. But we stopped last year cos we were not sure whether it was really useful.
When we did the x ray 1.5 years after the 1st x ray, the curvature was quite similar to the first. So I am glad. But as she is entering puberty we are afraid that she may not be so lucky at her next growth spurt, and from my reading of scoliosis treatment, it seems incorporating the right exercise could be very key in preventing progression.
Dr Lau seems to incorporate exercise as a large part of his treatment.
We wish the kids all the best in their treatments.
I will keep you updated on our experience with Dr Kevin Lau after we have seen him. -

Hi Macy, thanks for sharing. Am considering my 2 daughters for treatment. How many x-rays did your girl have to take during the 3 months therapy? And roughly how much is the cost?
Hi grace and faith, Dr Lau recommends that we maintain the scheduled check up with HPB so to not over xray. I paid $4k for 3 months. Previously I spent more on a hard brace then a soft one but the didnt work.
We are continuing with the program and I hope we never have to go thru surgery... will wait and see as we have a check up in a few months at HPB. -
My post was deleted from here, not sure why but basically I would recommend people to read people talking about scoliosis online. Try googling \"can a chiropractor fix scoliosis\" and simply read the comments (obviously don't read from chiropractors websites). Or read on wikipedia if their treatment has been proven to help with a proper research. The plain answer is no. Nothing really has great success with severe scoliosis (including braces and surgery) but I believe the most important thing is to make sure your child keeps fit and healthy. That is what worked for us.
I see dr Kevin has a book that has exercises in it? Maybe it is worth purchasing, however all the expensive treatment maybe not.. Not just his treatment, I couldn't find anywhere with treatments that were affordable. I have been really let down by chiropractors... -
I think Chiropractors do help mainly with pains. My Chiropractor maintains that it will help with the curvature, provided one remains active and keeps a good posture.
However it seems that many people who have had braces combined with physiotherapy have seen successes. Key is to maintain the exercises taught even after being discharged from braces, and remember to keep a good posture.
I spoke to a Physiotherapist who told me that many scoliosis patients have a tendency to stand biased towards one side, and I do see this in my daughter. The patients have to make a conscious effort not to do this as this will cause curve to worsen. -

Other than leaning on one side while standing, some also do that while sitting down. -
Hi,
My son was asked to screen at Health Promotion Board, and after xray we were told that his case is mild scoliosis and thus needs monitoring for the next 6 months. Medical officer mentioned that this is genetic and not linked to diet, exercise or sitting posture when I asked there was anything we could do to prevent progression. Is what the Medical officer said true? Can parents who have experience share ?tks -

I remember I felt a sharp pain at the back of my neck on n off. Then the P6 physical exam came. That was how I was told my spine was not straight.Hi,

Hubby's youngest sister and I have a 9 years age gap. When I married into his family, I noticed that this sis-in-law sits loop to one side and when she walks, her shoulder is loop-sided too. So I suggested to MIL to bring the sis-in-law for checkup. Her spine curves to one side.
So I think it is not genetic. More of posture prob. -
Jennifer:
Actually their way of walking is more because of the fact their spine isn't straight. No one walks lop sided unless their spine isn't straight

it really is genetic, but a poor diet and bad posture doesn't make things any better
