All About Piano Maintenance & Tuning

A good tuner can work on all pianos, just like a good pianist can make the best of all pianos. To be honest, there aren't that many top notch tuners here... If you want, can pass you my tuner's contact. Perhaps have a change and see what happens? Even with an elec tuner, if the tuner himself doesn't have a sharp ear, the elec tuner won't be much help.
Hi Jce,
Glad can get some advise from this thread, do you mind to PM me the contact ? I'm trying to get a good tuner for my ds piano. Thank you. -
How does a piano tuner charge? By the hour? By the pitch?
I’ve been having my piano tuned for the last 8 years and no tuner told me that I had to have 2 tunings to bring up to 440. (Obviously it must have been off that’s why I need to tune, right?) From what I know, no matter how far off the pitch is, the tuner has to tune to the default pitch at 440.
How far off is my piano pitch? 438. So, to bring up 2 hz I need 2 tunings in one visit? His reasoning was he can’t bring up the pitch at one go for fear of string tension …(can’t find the word for it). Eg. New strings in violin tends to go out of tune easily as the string isn’t being stretch yet. So I ask how long does he need to complete the job? He says 2hrs but done in 11/2 hrs with some phone calls in between. So I paid double.
I think I’ve been taken for a ride. -
I just pay my tuner by the visit. I’ve never noticed how long he takes. When he’s done, he plays some nice pieces for us to enjoy too!

I’m looking for a piano tuner too because the current one (also the seller) is very arrogant and all my kids don’t like him. Can leave the contact here or pm me please?

We use Patrick from Century Piano. He is the owner. Bought our piano from him many years ago and he is still tuning for us. I think it's $60. Maybe half yearly.
You can try to contact 6339 2376. -
A nice yahama guy told me not to used hungry hippo to dehumid the piano. Cos when the ‘hippo’ is full, it will circulate humid air. He suggest usin silicone jel and change them out once in a while
Just to share ways of taking care of yr piano. -
Read fr somewhere star anise will help in dehumidifying, has anyone tried?

Hi schen,
It's good to know that you have a piano. It's a wonderful instrument! Good pianists will only play well after a thorough understanding about its instruments. Please learn more about yours carefully before you get a technician. Check its history, try to discover it's weakness and let a good pianist have a sonata or two from it.
You could try calling specialist from the web or get a referral from owners here. Just make sure they have the credentials. Fees vary from about 100 onwards. Tunning should done twice a year if played often. Hope you have fun with it as I had with mine. :boogie: -
