All About Piano Maintenance & Tuning

Sorry, I don't mean to confuse. 440 is the regular piano pitch tuning whereas, 442 is tuned to concert pitch. Concert piano is always tuned to 442. Violin tuning is always tuned according to the piano, otherwise, you get different pitches when playing together. For exams, just tune according to the piano provided in the studio.
Now I stressed..... :scared: what is 440 / 442? For those who do not know anything about it, what do we do when the tuner comes? This is gonna be the first time i'm getting the piano tuned......dasalo:
I needed trusted and tested piano tuners. My dd is so very fussy with tuners. She did not like all the previous tuners. PM me pls if you have one. Thanks.
I need piano teachers' advice. What pitch should I tune my piano to? 440 or 442? My dd plays the piano leisurely but sometimes she needed it for accompaniment with her violin during exams? Her violin is tune to 442.
Some tuners insisted at 440 and of course, when we request, they will tune to 442 but it's rather confusing for me.
Follow the tuner's advice if you are just doing piano. -

Shouldn't the company who sold you the piano have your records? Mine does, and they base the tunings on their records (which I will countersign.Hi MummyThreeStreams,
can you send me the tuner contact? I have actually 1 free tuning when I bought my piano 2-3 years ago.....but I lost my receipt
Anyway, will PM you the contact of my tuner. -
Let me know if you need piano tuning service. By default, your piano is tune with reference to 440 Hz. Thanks.

Aiyoh, don't be sorry. These are good sharing....I have gained and learn something new. Thanks for the explanation. -
When engaging a piano tuner, is it necessary to ask if the tuner specializes in any brand of pianos?
I just read from the other thread “all about choosing piano” by Markfch, that the tuner is able to “bring out the sound” of the piano. So if it is the case, wouldn’t it makes sense to engage a piano tuner who specialises in that specific brand as they are familiar with the make and wood used?
My dd1 always complain that the tuner did not do a good job. Some keys are not very in tune and I wondered why since they tune and double up with a electronic tuner.
Maybe because I wanted mine at 442? -
A good tuner can work on all pianos, just like a good pianist can make the best of all pianos. To be honest, there aren’t that many top notch tuners here… If you want, can pass you my tuner’s contact. Perhaps have a change and see what happens? Even with an elec tuner, if the tuner himself doesn’t have a sharp ear, the elec tuner won’t be much help.

So 440Hz is the frequency of the A note above Middle C.

I think you misunderstood my post. I should have been clearer. What I meant was that my piano tuner is also a piano teacher (a very good one as far as I can tell); sometimes I'll ask him to play some songs after tuning is done and they will sound wonderful because he has the skills to bring out fully the sound of the piano, unlike my ds who has yet to master all the different playing techniques.

Tuning is basically adjusting the tension of the strings, which is independent of the make and wood. -
