Anglo Chinese Family of Schools

HI parents, is it easy to get into ACS Barker Rd ? my boy will be in P1 in 2010. I am wondering what can I do to make admission easier for him…please share.
-
I don’t think its easy. From what I heard, normally by the end of phase 2A1, all the slots are taken up. By the way, do you know the difference between ACS Primary and ACS Junior?
-
yeap I do …what about making donations to the school ??
-
Hmmm … i not sure about making donations… although I did heard from my colleague that if someone were to sponsor for lets say a new computer lab with about 20 stations, it might do the trick… However, I do believe schools like acs are pretty well to do with their strong rich powerful backing from their alumni and parents of the kids. so maybe it would not work for schools like acs. Hopefully Chief Kiasu can shed some light on this matter.
if u don’t mind, can you tell me what are the differences between the two schools? tks -
Hi All
Care to share the difference btw the 2 schools too. There/It was only ACS Primary during my time at Fort Cunning Road.
Tks -
OK… from what I know:
ACS Primary School is the original ACS Primary school that kept moving around until it finally moved back to the Barker Road campus together with the ACS (Secondary) School.
ACS Junior is in the Peck Hay road, but will be moving to Winstedt Road (where Monk’s Hill Secondary School used to be) by the end of 2008. It is also affiliated with ACS (Secondary) School.
ACS Primary is the one with the GEP programme, and so should be the “better” of the 2. -

Can anyone enlighten me? What is the difference between ACS Primary and ACS Junior?
Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) in Singapore, is the original primary school of the [ACS] family (est in 1887) , located at the Barker Road campus adjacent to the ACS (Barker Road) block. ACS Junior is the other ACS primary school (established in 1951) and is currently located at Peck Hay Road but will be relocating to a new building along Winstedt Road from Jan 2009. Students from both schools have the option to move on to the ACS Secondary Schools with affiliation favours.
As ACS Primary is a more established school, it is naturally the more popular of the 2 primary school and there are more old boys too. Thus, it is much tougher to enter into ACSP than ACS Junior but both schools are much sought after by parents.
I understand too that ACS does not offer PV. So the only way you can apply under 2B phase is either through church affiliation or as an active community leader.

Just to share an update.
2008 2B Phase for
ACS Primary (Barker Rd).
Anglo Chinese School (Primary) has places only for children who have registered in the school and are living within 1km of the school. Therefore, children living outside 1 km of the school are unsuccessful in their registration. No balloting will be conducted in Anglo Chinese School (Primary).
ACS Junior
After Phase 2A, left 61 for Phase 2B.
Balloting required for those > 2km.
There are a total of 49 registered who are more than >2km. And there are only 27 vacancies available.
Out of the 27, there are a pair of twins. Thus, if one of the twin is been selected, the other twin will also be in naturally.
I'm so happy that my boy is in!!!!! Butterfly knots when they are doing the balloting!!! Phew! Thank GOD!!!!
