Congrat ! She can gets in her first choice. This is not easy, that means she is really good in Dance.
My dd sms me this morning and she is posted to her first choice, Dance. She told me another 2 friends of hers also got in. What I know is all 3 of them either won some form of award for their primary school or has joined dance/ballet for several years.
So whats her IDP ? -

Thanks. It sure helps!
Hi usaik, from my observation, it might help but not necessary. I have seen cases of in a particular CCA in pri sch but cannot get in the same CCA in Sec/IP. I also have seen cases where no experience at all in the CCA the child want to join in Sec/IP and yet being selected.usaik:
Hi,
Just wondering whether if a child is interested to join say, the school band, must he/she be already been a band member in primary school before they admit the child when they are in Sec or IP school?
In Sec/IP, there are many criterias they look when when conduct the interview and selection. Hope this helps. -
Will my child get CCA participation points for attending math olympiad lessons??
-
points for attending lessons?? I doubt so, for participating in olympaids, most definitely…but maybe can confirm with teacher?

Wah, computerkid, what school is this? Such high-browed entry requirements for CCA in Sec 1?
Having joined a similair CCA in primary school is not good enough. They are looking for talents. So you must have awards and achievements. For popular CCA like InfoComm, Innovation, Robotics, you must win in competition. Same for sports, represent school and win. For performing Arts like band the criteria is minimum grade 2.usaik:

HOD said anything less than Grade 2, don't bother to apply. And they will conduct auditions. So it is very competitive.
I know in dd & ds' schools, all conduct auditions/trials, whether or not you've been in that CCA before, you need to go through the auditions/trials. Even if the child had not been in that CCA before, during the trials/auditions, they can determine if the child is suitable or has talent for that CCA.
Gee, since when eg. choir has minimum grade 2, yah? And even if the choir wins awards, doesn't mean the individual member is good, mah, unless key member (altho' in primary school choir, that's rare).
I know many band members or orchestra members in sec 1 have no prior experience because not ALL primary schools have bands or orchestra either.
So usaik, it really depends on which school your child is going to be at.
My dd & ds are in schools where they win top awards at competitions, by the way, and take pride in doing so, and train really hard. -

I don't agree with both statements in bold. Both my kids are in infocomm despite not winning any awards in primary school. And my son is in sports, though he's never played that while in primary school.

Will my child get CCA Participation points in sec 4? I heard that you have to fulfill 75% of the attendance a year in order to get that participation point. Sec 4 step down from the CCA early to prepare for o levels, so will he still get the point for that year despite not attending CCA for one whole year?

Pupils may participate in more than one CCA. Points are awarded for pupils’ participation in a second CCA at school representation level or higher.
Minimum attendance in the second CCA is not a criterion for points to be
computed.
<end>
You mentioned in the other thread that this is for second CCA right?
Students will not get any participation point for attendance from second CCA unless they represent school in competition.
You may like to clarify this with the school. -

Points are awarded for participation in the main CCA with at least 75%
attendance rate.....
For pupils with an attendance rate of 50% - 74%, the CCA points
scored for the year will not be computed. However, CCA points
accumulated in earlier years can be retained for computation when the
pupil rejoins a CCA and fulfils the 75% attendance rate criterion.
An attendance rate of less than 50%, except for medical reasons, would
constitute a break in the CCA and all points accumulated up to and
including that year would be annulled.
<end>
Your child must attend until the day the school declares step down. 75% attendance for Sec 4 is computed to the day of stepping down. If your child didnt attend any single session in Sec 4, his participation for Sec 4 is 0.
Besides, they will compute the overall attendance from Sec 1 to Sec 4 to fulfill minimum 50%, otherwise all points accumulated from Sec 1 to 4 would be annulled.
Hope it helps.
