you know your child best if you think he can't accept a rejected application then work hard and admit to his dream school through S1 posting.
Sometimes, it is still unfair. You do not how much your hope is. You do not know they had given haow many WLs to GEPpers, and they are still in the better situations than MSers, even the latters have higher T-scores.

This is the first WL I heared. I wonder how many his T-score is.
I also know a kid rejected by RI: top 1 in SA1 in a common MS school, top20 in SMOP and TOP 50 in RI worldcup contest, received other two COs, and finial 260+ in psle.
😓

So did he still choose to study in RI after receiving his psle result? :?
He think RI being a noble school, which filled with GEPpers, so he first agreed other CO, and early abandon the possiblity to RI. 260+ is just a nomal score for him.

Based on all that has been said ....if your child is from MS and RI Material, it might be kinder to the child to await the PSLE results before applying to RI. Unless of course the child does not want to go to RI...cos there are other terrific boys' schools which would likely welcome RI material Mainstreamers with open arms 😄

Since there is nothing to lose, why not let your boy even if he is MS to try DSA to RI anyway provided you gotta manage his expectations.

MS or GEP, every child stands a chance to be selected to his/her dream school by DSA if he has the niche and X factor that the school is looking for which can be anything from looks, height to eloquence or personality.

Dont give up on DSA just because you think you are not a gepper!!!

The MSers and their parents lost much time and self-confidence after being rejected.

More important, they do not know if they have any hope to receive the COs via DSA, even they actually are the most excellent in MS schools, and are not weaker than the top GEPpers.

Yes, I also know one MS boy from Nanhua Pri received CO from RI in 2011 or 2012. But nobody found even a MS boy received RI's CO or WL by academic DSA last year.

Even the TOP30s of SMOP can not give the MSers more chance. Maybe the Top3s have more chance, but often they are also Geppers.

I do hear a boy fr MS got WL fr RI last yr, which was later converted to CO.
Another girl, fr the same school, MS, got WL fr NYGH, and later got converted to CO. Her Tscore was 251.. If she did not DSA, she would not hv got into NYGH.

So parents, all is not lost yet. if u hv decided to allow yr DC to DSA, let support them all the way through, and hope for the best.

I guess RI collected GEPs as many as possible via DSA. Their DSA standards for GEPpers and MSers are very different. Rather easy for GEPpers ,and too difficult for MSers.

Last year we did not hear of anyone from MS received CO and WL of RI in the 60~100 academically pupils of Round 2. Similiar situations had happened for 4~5 (?) years.

Don't worry, the really excellent MSers can enter RI via the finial PSLE.

At least for the last 4-5 years we haven't heard of ms getting into ri via academics. It is known fact ri prefers geppers but they can't state that in dsa cos that would make ri elitist. And so they have to open dsa to all though they have already targeted some. I thought there may be changes this year with a new principal but since he's down with cancer, I guess things will remain pretty much the same as previous years.
Ri's dsa preference eliminated quite a number of ms boys who accepted the co of other schools, who would have otherwise entered the school comfortably with their psle scores. Perhaps ri felt these are worth giving up by admitting more geppers.
I know there was a mainstream boy from Catholic High Primary offered CO from RI in 2011. He applied under maths domain. As far as I know he did not have the outstanding maths olympiad background - not a winner of top 30 in NMOS, top 20 in SMOPS, high distinction in RIPWMC and top 40 in APMOPS. He is not even top students from cath high, although he is from one of the top class.

I agree your views. RI gave almost all COs and WLs to GEPpers via DSA, which keeps its strongest repute. The less places for MS kids , the higer cut-off scores in Plse. But this fact can’t be state.

Thus MSers, even they are the most excellent, have to make a decision: If their targets is RI, they have to give up other schools’ CO, and must try to obtain higher score in psle.

:stupid: :gloomy: :yikes:

Though i expected that, still speechless to hear that. 🤷 wat to do, now seem like the only way is do well in psle

RI only offer for the \"exceptionally outstanding\" in their chosen subject domain - that is why the selection test for that chosen subject is pitched at a very high level (Sec 3-4 level). With their limited vacancies for DSA, they would rather offer to the other domains like sports, music, etc. to enhance the school's overall strengths. Afterall, the academically-inclined will do well enough in PSLE and RI get to pick the cream of the crop anyway.

:xedfingers: And good luck! 🙏
I guess RI collected GEPs as many as possible via DSA. Their DSA standards for GEPpers and MSers are very different. Rather easy for GEPpers ,and too difficult for MSers.

Hi ngl2010,

I have read abt RI DSA in DSA 2013 posts. Have you heard of any kids who successfully dsaed via math domain last yr?

Hi Atan,

No, unfortunately I have not heard of any kids successfully DSAed via academic domain last year. DS also does not know anybody successfully DSAed via academic domain, music or arts domain. But he knows kids that successfully DSAed via sports.

However, if you read the DSA thread the years before last year, there were mainstreamers that successfully DSAed via academic domain. Maybe last year the kids just cannot make the cut? According to DS, GAT was not difficult. It was the 2nd round test that was difficult. He thinks maybe Sec 3 or 4 standard.

Yes, the chance for MSers almost is zero, and most parents have to prepare to receive such results.

Wonder did anyone managed to get in top school such as RI, NJC , Hwa Chong via academic for non-GEP? As I heard the chances is almost zero? Dunno how true?

It almost is true for RI. RI almost only gives the chances to GEPs.
Other schools are OK lao.
