If possible, buy the exercise books n sch files earlier, not on orientation day. Just tell the security guard you are going to the bookshop (do call the bookshop first to check any hours reserved for parents to buy items).

I agree with Jennifer. It's better not to buy on orientation day. We got my dd's uniforms and books earlier. There were only a few parents. We settled in 15 mins. No sweat. For books or files that are out of stock, you should be able to get them at a later date. I hope this new vendor is better. Two years back, a friend queued for almost three hours to get books and uniforms. She was 'steaming' :x by the time she reached home.

The previous vendor really made me vomit blood....they said we could order the books online and collect them at the specified date and time... on the collection day, to my surprise, the items were not packed and the staff did it on the spot...same encounter as to those parents ordered online... then what was the use of ordering online???????worst of all, when i reached home, i found that few titles and other items were packed wrongly... gave me P2 books instead of P1, shortage of items. So made another trip back to the school, got questioning from the lady boss, looked at me like i was cheating her, then she got her temp staff (those schools boys) to make the replacement. Luckily, this time i checked the items...again, they gave me the P2 books..... VOMIT BLOOD......

Markfch, i had the same feeling like you last year...time flies and my dd is preparing for her SA2 now.... are you interested in joining Fathers@PHPPS - a father support group in Pei Hwa (in the organising committee)? I am sure you will enjoy it...If you are interested, let me know as we are planning activities for the kids next year (including your ds).

They just have an event not long ago.
I thought the turn out is pretty good.

php - can i know what is the fathers@phpps all abt?

      can my hubby join??
Your hubby can join us as ordinary member or in the organising committee. the group was formed few months ago. the objective is to support dadsforlife momement and to promote father-child bonding. we did a soft launch in aug during mid-autumn festival and our first event was in sep. coming next will be an event on nov, just before school holiday. If your hubby can spare the time, do join as in the organising committee. we are looking for at least one or more activities per term. so we definitely need more fathers to help out....If you hubby is interested, pm me his name, contact no, kid name and class and i will pass the info to the HOD in charge. Hope to meet up with your hubby soon....thks...

    • RE: All About English Creative Writing

      Hi TAS

My girl is currently attending your class and i can see vast improvement in her writing. Going through her notes, i was impressed with the ways she was taught to do her writing. She was taught to write a very impressive introduction describing the weather, such as sunny day, cloudy day, windy day and etc… Eg Tall, green trees swayed in the wind …mostly outdoor activities such as A Day At Beach, A Day At Zoo, A Day At Bird Park or a Camping Trip.

One question :- How to write an introduction if the activities are indoor such as A Day At Supermarket, A Day At Library, A Day At Cinema, etc…

      Thanks.

I do not hv any P2 letters now, so cant reference back.

There was 造句 in paper 2 during SA1.

Actually I had not paid attention to the time limit of the exam papers.

That's ok, Jennifer. Thanks for checking. I have accepted the fact that time is reduced for SA2 cos IJJ had confirmed the timing as such for last year's P2 SA2. Shan't wait for HOD to reply.

It's good for P1 parents to take note for their kids next year.

I have to note cos my dd writes rather slowly for chi compo so need to see her quality of work if there's a reduction in time. Tried out this morning, she completed in an hour with minutes to spare for both components but her compo was shortened by at least a hundred characters compared to all her past practices. She was still able to write more than 150 chars (min 40 chars) but I dun know how would it affect her content marks. No wrong chars, used all helping words, structure seems fine but a little cliche-ish. Well...I guess most importantly is that she managed to end her story in time, cannot think of jazzing up for the time being.

To all, all the best for SA2!

E3. so you haven't received any reply from CH HOD yet? haha... maybe CH teachers can't get use to email yet....But previously my dd's CH teacher responded pity fast.....

Communication via email is a better method to get in touch with teachers. I tried a few times sending emails to my dd's FT and i got her responses within the same day. Maybe you should just try sending an email to the HOD instead....

Yes php, I did that right after I got the last response from the clerk, now I am waiting for his reply. I had emailed my dd's FT a couple of times before with regard to other stuff and you are right, I get responses within the day. This time round, I was hoping to get a direct answer from the HOD, instead of waiting for him to read his email and then reply me. Oh well...now I know better. Thanks for your advice.

I wouldn't have to resort to this if it's not cos of my dd's chi teacher not able to give my dd a confirmed answer.

Frankly, I was more frust with the admin's way of handling phone calls than getting a reply for my query. I think they should improve their services by having the time-tables of teachers on-hand or even a white board with info of teachers who are on-course or on leave. In this way, any callers, either by phone or walk-in would know whether the teacher is definitely around or not. At least, that was what my ex-school did.

Academically, PHPPS is doing better year after year... but in term of administration, i think they are lacking behind and there are plenty room for improvement. Nowadays, it is not an easy job for teachers any more. There are too many non-teaching related jobs they have to undertake. No doubt parents are more demanding nowadays, but i think we as parents need to appreciate the effort they put in in imparting knowledege and values to our kids. As an ex-teacher, i believe you will fully agree with me.

This is so frustrating and out of hand...

I called the GO to ask to speak to Chinese HOD to clarify the duration for Chi pp1. A clerk picked up and transferred the call, I was put on hold (listening to music) for a long time. Instead of getting back to me to tell me that nobody picked up, she let me hang on the phone, then...a boy picked up and started dialing...he heard my voice and said, \"Oh, sorry wrong number.\"...never mind....I called a second time, another person picked up, didn't know how to do the transfer and hung up on me! I have the patience to call the third time, yet, another person picked up and said she could only take a message, cos \"This is a school, teachers come in and out, we do not know when they will be around so we will take a message and that's all the counter clerk can do.\"

      What is this? :stupid:
Hi E3, i understand your frustration. I believe the staff in GO need to improve their communcation techniques. However, contacting a teacher through phone is highly not recommended. Most of the time, teachers are teaching in classes and it is difficult to get them unless you know very well the free slot of that particular teacher. Communication via email is a better method to get in touch with teachers. I tried a few times sending emails to my dd's FT and i got her responses within the same day. Maybe you should just try sending an email to the HOD instead....

      Funz:
Haizz, just called PHPPS to enquire about my PV application status and was told that there was some delay and they will only inform parents by end of this month.

      Hi Funz

If you are selected to do PV at PHPPS, then don't worry, you will be able to clock the min 40 hrs by Jun next year. All staff are helpful enough to ensure you clock that important 40 hrs. But if you are not selected, then i think it will be difficult, or rather impossible, to get any PV in 'hot' schools in time for next year P1 registration.

Let me rephrase if I understood janet correctly. She meant to say the ex-principal of Nanyang Primary who is the current Principal of Nanyang Girls High managed to groom a PSLE top scorer two years ago before she left Nanyang Primary. Right? 😄

Sorry for not phrasing myself clearly. E3, you really understand me :hugs: The ex-principal of Nanyang managed to groom a TOP scholar before she left. Mrs Foo left St Hilda's the year there was a top PSLE student - a Malay girl who went to RGS.

[/quote]i see...i get your meaning now.....
