Sorry for my slightly curt reply earlier on. I was rushing for an appt and so cut short my post. What you posted is consistent with what I heard. I've heard of students scoring merit and above for PSLE HCL but barely passing HCL in IP Y1. It seems that there is a big gap between IP and pri sch HCL std.

As part of my 'research' into sec schs for my son who will be P6 next year, sometimes I browse sch threads like RVHS and HCI. From the sharing there, it seems that students have to write book reviews and newspaper article commentaries as early as Y1, and present them in class on a regular basis. This is definitely a big jump from PSLE HCL whereby it's mainly Compo and OE Compre.

My son in NUSH doing HCL also has to do something like that. So I guess this may be the norm in HCL sec school?

      PS Off topic a bit

If this is the norm, then there's no escape for my boy as I definitely want him to take HCL in sec sch. Thanks for the heads up.
you worry too much... rabbit junior no problem la...

I notice that from Sixth Ave station, you need to exit at Bukit Timah Road, use the overhead bridge and take any bus, alight 2 bus stops away (just outside the side gate of NJC).

Tan Kah Kee station, go to the exit towards Bukit Timah Road, take any bus, alight two bus stops away, cross overhead bridge to get to the side gate of NJC.

Sixth Ave station does not have underpass to Dunearn Road?

Then I am incorrect. I had assumed all stations have underpass to each side of the road, unlike Botanic Gdn circle line. Maybe the canal in the middle of these roads makes it hard to have an underpass.

If you drive along Dunearn Road or Bukit Timah Road, you can notice nice overhead bridges linking both sides of the road.... so very unlikely there are underpasses in those stations...should be due to the canal.....

Initially, i was happy that there is DTL coming soon and my girl can get to school by MRT...only to realise that there is no station in front of the school....
he gets by for math with minimal revision but struggles in eng. 😢

Just curious, how you define struggle?

Aiyoh, why do you want to make me laokui (embarrassed) in front of others. 😆

Okay, my son's first Eng test score was way below baseline. As he was scoring high 80s in P3, it came as a culture shock to us. :yikes:

Edit: I still remember when I first saw the score on the paper, I thought it was upon 30. :rotflmao:
was he the highest in class? if so, no worry....

Time flies... It is time to bid farewell to this thread. I rated myself as the least kiasu parent in the forum but I benefited plenty from the amount of information that I gathered in the portal. Those were the days that we could openly share in this particular thread and poking fun at each other. I really treasured those moments and missed parents like IJJ, E3, Happy Mama, FQW, dyh, Trapwithin, Funx3, Jennifer, JoeeYee, janet_lee88 and many others. Those days, I looked forward to E3's posting and Trapwithin's for his reflection. All eyes were glued to this thread and if we happened to blink our eyes, this thread would jump by 10 pages. The BBQs we had were fun and my dd is still talking about them till now. To date, we still remain friends even though our kids are in different schools.

It was not a plain smooth sailing journey for my girl. Like many parents, I had high expectations from her initially. I exected her to be at least top 3 in class. I expected her to clear the GEP but when that didn't go her way, I began to concern whether she was selected for TTLT or E2K programme. Everything just didn't fall in place for her because I didn't realise she was just an average kid. I learnt along the way and I freed the kite one day. She studied at her own pace and was coping well in school. At least to me personally, PH is a good school and she enjoys her school days here.

The school has laid a good foundation for her academically and she is looking forward to embark on her new journey. It was a bonus to us that she was successfully DSAed into her dream school. The final piece just fell in place for her, at least.

Here wishing all the kids all the best in their examination.

Hey php, congrats to your girl to get into her dream school.
      All the best to her.

My ds2 did not get DSA; on the positive side now I can go thru the experience of choosing a school when the PSLE results are out. 🙂

My last 8 years partnering with PH to educate my children will always hold fond memories...

Hi dyh, thank you....best wishes to your ds2...
