lol i see. So moderation is the tool used by the school to kept the principal's promise.

Now I dun know new principal still do moderation cos my child last year under old principal. Now he change so many things like for year 1 got HMT spelling. my ist child dun have at all n dun even use txtbk. i have to sent her for HMT tuition to cope with o level during her year 4. Lucky got A2 but whole level done very badly.

last year, dd was year 1, under old principal, they have HMT ting xie & mo xie of poems. They did use textbooks for HMT too. HMT was one of e heaviest subject for them last year.

What I mean is, I understand that from the principal’s point of view, he will forsee that IP students will definitely want to "take things easy" (its an IP students thingy) so he will use the high grades GPA promotion criteria to remind students to work hard.

However in any IP schools with a certain level of standard, I am very sure it won’t be easy for the majority to achieve such high gpa, (if everyone can achieve that high gpa outsiders will think the internal course standard is not very rigorous) and on the other hand, the principal can’t be "firing off" students who worked hard and not meet the goal of high gpa. Because the problem lies with the goal, not the students.

so at the end of the day grades are likely to be moderated if too many students did not meet the goal . Similarly the principal wishes to promote as many worthy candidates as possible (so he will give chances to borderline students with conditions attached) and keep the students "motivated" at the same time.

I think you will also see moderation elsewhere in other ip schools.
Of course all the students must work hard, but it’s good to know if a ray of hope exists when one is in a panicking situation.
            just my humble opinion

I told dd, changes is unavoidable, esp the school is trying to fine tune all aspects to improve & be better. So throughout all these years, there were changes and more changes to expect. Who in this world would want to change for the worse? For every changes, it is the people who try out the changes, then we can tell if the new policy works. If it works, thats great! If don't, fine tune it. Ulimately, whatever the changes is, they just have to continue study hard & study smart, result would come naturally.

There is a major change in the time table in aspect to duration of each lesson, recess time & additional thing call lunch time. Personally by looking at it the first glance, i quite like the new timing, now sch dismiss earlier.

My dd yr 1. First week , they bought Sec 2 A HMT text book. In Feb, they bought Sec 2B HMT text book. Not sure is that for all classes though.
It is still the heaviest subject for them so far.

Yes I prefer this new time table too, especially the 'lunch time' as my dd did not have time for lunch before her CCA. They need to change and bun hair. I have to pack snack for her. By the time CCA finished at 6pm, she was already so hungry. Not sure they added in due to parents' feedback ?
For my dd class, 'lunch time' is on Tues and Fri but her CCA is Tues and Thurs... :stupid:
