Zoe Tay fails to get son enrolled in Nanyang Primary School

GPTeacher:
The way the whole issue is being presented seems to make HPPS a 2nd choice, a 'not as good school' as the 'top' NYPS. Hmmm .... Anyway, being in a better than average school is only the beginning of a long learning journey. How well a child does really depends on a lot of other factors. So, really, we as parents should not get carried away.

HPPS was also our 2nd choice (and nobody will make a deal cos I am no celebrity ;p) simply it does not have affiliation. HPPS need not always be first choice for many...
ITA with the above post about beginning of a long journey and child's aptitude... as my daughter nears the end of the primary school journey, I learn something. IF the children are capable, make it worth their while in HPPS and aim for the top classes (not necessarily GEP) cos then getting into a 'good' secondary school (that means only express stream schools for me) is more or less guaranteed, subject to the child's performance. JMHO based on my observation past 6yos... -

Errr.....I have PVed and endured the anxiety like everyone else.
It's a general statement I observed in this P1 Reg'nkiddo:
We are wondering why the press are making a big deal....and meanwhile we have run up 7 pages of posts?
Unless you are in this P1 registration probably cannot feel
how anxious parents are in this period....
Imagine you are a parent who have done PV and did not even get
into the school you PV ....surely you will
:frustrated:
not directed at you 3 boys :imanangel:
you probably weathered very well during that time , :hi5:
did your boys got into the school you PV?
and probably quite some time ago like me ........
I was reading around , the kind of anxiety I see, read and hear
seem to be a little different and at a very more intense anxiety
with some parents :xedfingers: ................ -
MummyThreeStreams:
St. Nick's is also a full-school.
Dear MummyThreeStreams, does this mean that for full-schools, those who studied in the secondary, but not the primary section, (for example St. Nicks secondary, but not St. Nicks primary) can qualify to register their children in Phase 2A2 (or Phase 2A1 if they joined the school's alumni e.g. St. Nicks alumni)?
Pardon my ignorance, but would you happen to know how a school is deemed a full-school? Is it by the fact that both primary and secondary section is helmed by one principal? Is that a good enough rule-of-thumb, or is there a list of full schools available somewhere for viewing? -

JGMum,
Full schools have both primary and secondary sections as one single school. Since affiliation for alumni is based on the school, even if you only studied in the school during your secondary school days, your child will be eligible under Phase 2A. -
is Paya Lebar Methodist girls (PLMGS) - a full school ?
if MGS (Bukit Timah) is a full school, why PLMGS not listed the drop box?
after all, they are same Methodist denomination. -

PLMGS was started as a branch of the Anglo-Chinese School and was known then as Paya Lebar English School.Mrs Chew Hock Hin(wife of Rev Chew Hock Hin, lady seated in family potrait) became the Principal of the school. She remained in that capacity until she retired in 1957. She is regarded as the founder of the Paya Lebar MGS because she re-organised the school with the help of the American Crusade Fund.
