We use Patrick from Century Piano. He is the owner. Bought our piano from him many years ago and he is still tuning for us. I think it's $60. Maybe half yearly.
You can try to contact 6339 2376. -
A nice yahama guy told me not to used hungry hippo to dehumid the piano. Cos when the ‘hippo’ is full, it will circulate humid air. He suggest usin silicone jel and change them out once in a while
Just to share ways of taking care of yr piano. -
Read fr somewhere star anise will help in dehumidifying, has anyone tried?

Hi! M looking for qualified piano technician to assess condition n value of 2nd hand piano. Any idea where to find n charges.

Hi schen,
It's good to know that you have a piano. It's a wonderful instrument! Good pianists will only play well after a thorough understanding about its instruments. Please learn more about yours carefully before you get a technician. Check its history, try to discover it's weakness and let a good pianist have a sonata or two from it.
You could try calling specialist from the web or get a referral from owners here. Just make sure they have the credentials. Fees vary from about 100 onwards. Tunning should done twice a year if played often. Hope you have fun with it as I had with mine. :boogie: -
Hi tattania,
I don’t hav a piano yet wanted to buy one for my boy, n know nothing bat it, so need help -
Hi. Does anyone know of any good piano technician who is capable of doing Piano Voicing on Japanese upright piano ?
Thank you -
Hi Nickw,
I watched a piano technician from Emmanuel & Sons voice a Grand Piano recently at someone’s home. From what little I understand, any piano technician who can work on grand pianos can do the same with uprights (they all start basic tech training on uprights and then do advanced training on grands). Maybe you can check with Emmanuel & Sons? -
Hi Chattyirena,
Thank you so much for the info. -
Does the regular tuning includes regulating the piano? If not, how much does it cost to regulate? And does all tuner know how to do it?
-
Regulating is different from piano tuning. Tuning is just a general maintaining process to keep the piano in tune and in shape (like a yearly health check-up). Regulating is a lot more in depth and professional so un-eveness in tone, touch etc will be checked and rectified. This type of more in depth work is generally done sparingly, perhaps once every 10 years if it is a good piano. Of course, if usage is high then it would be a bit more regular due to wear and tear.

MummyThreeStreams:
Hi mummies,happyparent:
Hi Happy Mama and MummyThreeStreams... would you mind PM me your contacts on tuner and mover as well? Planning to move in these 2 weeks. Waiting for the move to get the piano tuned... have been waiting for 2 years for this opportunity... Much appreciated
No problem! Have sent you the contact details too!
Any indication of moving and tuning cost of an old piano vs buying a new basic piano for lower grade? I have an old piano at my parent's place which I haven't touch for years. Now that my son is taking grade 1, my dilemma is whether to buy a basic piano or recondition my old piano...
Please pm me contacts of tuner and movers. Thanks -

Need recommendation for piano mover and tuner, please. Thanks

hi, saw yernyin posted her piano tuner, Mr Chew, for $50 per visit so gave a try since the price is so attractive. Just to share my experience with this Mr Chew. After tuning the piano, my piano teacher complaint few keys were wrongly tuned so we contacted him. He refuted the claim and gave lots of excuses and claimed that our piano is old and need overhaul which cost more than $1k. He even suggested to us to trade in our U1 to him for another piano which we turned down his offer. We decided to get another tuner to verify his claim and realised that few keys were indeed mistuned but were fixed subsequently. Hopefully by sharing this incident, u may want to be more careful when engaging Mr Chew as your piano tuner.

A matter of fact, do not even engage tuners charging below $60 or $70. They’re either not properly trained or there to do a quick job and leave. Do not for the sake of saving a bit of money engage such tuners. There are many ‘grades’ of tuners, the really pro ones charge $100 and above. Especially for those with good pianos, do not let substandard tuners tune your pianos, they may damage your piano’s tuning pins with improper tuning technique, or break strings etc… I’ve heard lots of bad things…
