200 SMRT bus drivers refuse to go to work over pay issue

MR06:
The HR manager thought, he/she is dealing with people with Singaporean mindset...... all guai guai and dare not create trouble.
PRC workers are the MOST scheming and best at playing politics and play against each other
Failing to draw candidtates' attention to the fact that they are signing up for a job in public transport which requires them to give 14 days notice before a strike is also poor HR.pirate:
They may not have chosen the correct way to raise their displeasure or unhappiness but I do not think we should label them trouble makers.
This is poor HR management by SMRT. When managing staff, we have to think about their emotions as well. We can say all we want about the drivers signing a contract, blah, blah, blah, but if there is a sense of being treated unfairly, it needs to be addressed with care and not with that piece of paper shoved in their faces. Lets hope SMRT improve their process and communication with their staff going forward.
Is this where we are supposed to ask about the nationality of the HR manager? :siam: -

http://tdy.sg/TuKyK9 - SMRT has issued the following statement after management met with more than 130 bus drivers from China at two townhall sessions today: “As a large number of our Service Leaders from China have expressed their desire to move out from the dormitories, we will also be arranging alternative accommodation for them at various HDB flats/apartments located island-wide when the leases of their dormitories expire from early 2013.”
Looks like SMRT is breaking under pressure...
HDB?

http://tdy.sg/Sig24b - TODAY's cover story: 4 SMRT drivers from China have been charged for abetting SMRT drivers to take part in an illegal strike, and will appear in court again on Thursday. One of them - 32-year-old He Jun Ling - allegedly set the plan into action when he made a post on Chinese language portal Baidu.com calling on others to take medical leave over the next two days.
Internet is serious business... In the hands of PRC

Ooi! Over 170 PRC went on illegal strike & only 4 get charged! Since when got such law that states as long as you are not the mastermind in illegal strikes, you can escape from punishment??? Regardless of who they are & where they are from, they must learn that (as the Chinese saying goes..) every house has its own rules, every country has its own laws. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse of committing crime. All should be punished & sent back home. Even individual illegal over-stayer is repatriated once they are caught, so how can an organized crime that involves over 170 people & pose greater risk to the country with their actions be let off? The authorities should follow LKY's footsteps in handling the SIA pilot strike saga & take swift & harsh punishment to send a strong signal to all, that the transport systems is not at anybody's mercy. No kowtowing to these people even if they have over 1b people behind them.

Anyway, those 4 Chinese men are arrested. The others who joined in the strike should be duly punished too...can't possibly let them off just bcos they went back to work soon after...but the very fact they participated is wrong.
Btw, where is the CEO? On holiday?
TCJ, JT and TSLuck have spoken up.
his holiday planned long ago, he has communicated via his staff to handle it -

This country’s embassy intervene remind Singapore to observe Human Rights.
In the first place, this country doesnot observe any Human Rights at all when punishing their own citizen or foreigners who do underground religious matters.
Punish the master-mind, fine them and send them home without a single cent to feed their families. Who gain? the people who stayed behind and get better dorm. -
Domino effect starting Liao...

hopefully
the excrement shall not hit the oscillation
anyway you cannot CHARGE all of them
must take into acct situation in China. they just change gahmen.
There are also a lot of China people that are very nationalistic and with a lot of fervour. We just saw that from China vs Japan over islands
IF they find out that we use a big stick to hit their 200 people over something that is commonplace back home… how har?
situation also all not rosy in China now. I get the feeling it is like a tinderbox ready to explode -
China is talking about Human Right?
Don’t bullshit!
They don’t even allow some people to get a passport to travel overseas. Go and ask people in Tibet. They have small quota for passports which mean that many people are not allowed to travel overseas. Once their passports expire, it is not renewed. -

That's what the embassies do, to \"assist\" their people in time of distress.
