Chloecube, thank you! So your child joined NAPS via phase 2A2?

Any parents here reside in Sengkang?

Dear parents, can I know how did you guys get your kids into NAPS? I’m an old girl. Tried visiting the website but there is no information on alumni or such. Or is there no alumni for NAPS ex-students??

Maybe you should just let him enjoy playing in the water for now and wait until he is older before your try lessons? From my observations, kids who start younger (except for the exceptional few) usually take longer to learn as they can't follow instructions as well and are less obedient and disciplined. My daughter started learning at 8yo (that was the earliest we could make it for various reasons) with a group of 5-6yo kids, and you could see the difference. She progressed beyond them in about 2mths and some of them had been learning for more than 6mths. After a long break, she is learning another stroke now at 14yo, and the instructor says that she has done in 1 lesson what a younger kid would do in 3. I don't recommend waiting till 8yo, but maybe you could wait till he's 5yo? It doesn't mean that if he learns to swim earlier he will be a better swimmer.

Thanks for your advice! Ideally, I would have started him at 3yo but my husband insisted he is not ready and would rather not waste money on swimming lessons if the coach has to spend 80% of the time coaxing rather than coaching. I didn't consider that and thought if we don't even let him try it out, how would we know if he is 'ready' or not...But yes, even thou he is turning 4 in a couple of months, he seems to be quite resistant to new activities

Swimdad, I’m not sure how far I can ‘push’ him to try swimming…how would I know his interest is really not in swimming. I know how to swim n naively thought I can teach him myself. Then I realised I cannot remember how I picked up swimming when I was young. He is now not afraid of jumping into the waters with his float. He will kick too, with his float but of cos…he is not moving forward much lol. His daddy is not keen to let him try as he feels he is not ready to learn swimming with a stranger yet and may not take instructions well due to his stubbornness.

Swimironkids wow…40-60laps can faint. My aim is for him to learn the proper strokes from the start. Not like me…anyhow swim also can pass. I suggested to my hb about my boy joining a club to learn and he is not keen. He prefers to get a coach n just let him learning in a public pool…whatever is cheaper ^^

Having read through 23 pages…am I right to say that if my boy who is turning 4 next year, who is still afraid and rejects swimming lessons because of the unfamiliarity (both surroundings & the coach), his chances of swimming competitively are gone? ^^

Dimsum I see! Didn't know, thanks a lot! I try dangdang 🙂 My boy has a short attention span. With his younger sister around all the time, it's so distracting and difficult to focus also 😞

I read this thread with interest. My boy currently 3.5 yo was attending Berries for about 8 months before we left for US. We won't be returning Singapore until late March 2014 and I was extremely disappointed to stop Berries for him as his interest in mandarin really grew after attending Berries. I wasn't sure if I would be able to get him back to Berries next year either. It is too popular and the waiting list is so long.

Would anyone know if taobao ships to US? 😉

      Hi,

Not sure if I can help but I'm currently in Sydney with my spouse and 2 kids for a year. We've been here about 3 months. I was working part time in Sg. I send my 5 year old to a local Kindy and my 1 year old is home with me.

The weekdays are tough for me but I love the weekends when we explore new places together as a family. I've learnt to cook simple meals . In Sg, I didnt cook much, my mother and mil used to cook for us.

The best part about this is the weather lol. It's cool here , but not too cold. And we escaped the haze!

I think it'll be an enjoyable experience for u overall.
My elder boy attends childcare & my girl infantcare. Am working full time now and the thought of having to be at home with both...very daunting. But yes i will stay positive, keep an open mind. Who knows i can tahan staying home 😄 I do cook but one dinner a day is nothing compared to having to prepare 3 meals a day! Tao hin liao.
