mneo0111:I had sort of mentally prepared myself that my boy may just have to go to the nearest pri school. But as it turns out, it seems like the nearest pri school to me is very popular due to the younger population in Sengkang. I think Punggol has it worse thou. I'm a catholic and there isn't any 'near enough' catholic primary schools for my boy. But to try balloting at phase 2B first seems more logical because who knows my boy might be lucky enough to secure a school at phase 2B? Else to enter balloting at phase 2C right from start is making my balls shrink.its so tough to make a decision on which school to go basing on the number of registration for next yr. Punggol & Sengkang \"good\" school is a real challenge.
how many in this area facing the same?

RE: All About Competitive Swimming
Travelmummy, I couldn’t agree more. I actually told my hubby that 1 extra hour in the pool is better than my boy spending that 1 hour on the handphone watching videos right? Could you share your experience on encouraging the little ones? How to keep the interest going…

RE: All About Competitive Swimming
Travelmummy, thank you for your advise! His grandmother and daddy feel i am pushing him too hard and having him swim twice a week for an hour each time might put him off swimming as they feel he is only 4 years old and there is no need to be so serious. I’m quite the opposite thou ^^ I see that he enjoys the lessons and because he warms up slower than the rest of his peers, i thought twice a week would be ideal so that he gets really familiar and he will feel more and more confident in the pool. My girl is turning 3 next year but i guess she would be too young to start right? My husband says progress is very slow for a 4 year old not to mention a 3 year old. Will waste money if let her start next year. Sigh. I’m an avid (thou lousy) swimmer and hope my kids will love swimming like I do.
Any parents here also try ‘practising’ with your kids the strokes they learn during lessons? I do that when i was residing in Jurong and had a really nice Chervons pool to swim in. I have just moved to Sengkang and the pool is horrible. -

Hi Nidal & babygabby , you can refer to this link for more information on the balloting history of the primary schools

Baconegg, best to call the school to enquire. Else just goggle for the school's website and surf around. They usually have information on studentcare if they have one. -
RE: All About Competitive Swimming
Can I check with experienced parents here…How do you know if your child is ready and/or suitable for competitive swimming? Other than being able to swim the 4 strokes? My boy is with Aquatic Masters for Learn-to-Swim. He enjoys the lessons very much. Now wondering if i should have him learn twice a week instead of once a week. The weekly lesson is an hour but usually by the time they get started, it’s more like a 45 min lesson and the class size is usually 6 or 7. Any views?? Forgot to add that he is 4yo and currently still doing freestyle. He has started the backstroke only last week.

RE: Advice on Savings Plans
I went through the Prudential savings plan last week. Only from the 3rd year of the plan, then they will declare some sort of ‘bonus’. So this bonus will be accumulated and after some years, the guranteed amount will be more than the principal amount.
My friend recommends i get an account with POSB and just transfer some money every month to buy the blue chips through them.
Sounds like what Pirate has mentioned…But my friend told me whatever amount i put in, is not guaranteed. No pain no gain.
I have some money coming in when my kids are 17 and 19 but this sum is projected and i’m not sure of the exact maturity amount. I have another sum coming in when i’m 52. Both are savings plans. So meanwhile, am wondering what else i can do to grow my money. Putting money into plans makes me abit nervous because it’s like locking my money somewhere. Am not sure if i will need extra cash in future as my parents are not covered by insurance.
Daddy2007, what do you mean by annual reversionary bonus and terminal bonus? Now with 2 kiddos, i find myself having lesser and lesser time to read up. I meant to try and read up and see how i can open an account with POEM or something and try to do DIY investment but omg. So much information and i don’t know when i can or if i will be able to digest. That’s when my friend suggested i just dump some money every month via POSB and just wait… -
RE: Advice on Savings Plans
Dear fellow kiasu parents
I’m currently 31 and would like to have a savings plan that can give me better returns than our basic saving account. My prudential agent has recommended me the Prusave (i think). The projected amount looks good but the guranteed amount is actually lesser than the principle amount paid.
Am i asking too much or is there really no other savings plan that can at least give me a guaranteed amount that’s equal to the principle amount paid? I went though the rest of the savings plans under Prudential. The guranteed is always lesser than the principle amount paid.
Would appreciate some advice on your own savings plans! -
