PrincessPrince:I am afraid I don't have any tips on this issue. I believe what my mum said, that he will eventually talk when he is ready. He just surprised me one day when my husband and I brought him to visit a playgroup. It was around CNY time and the place was nicely done up. Suddenly he point to the deco and said 'NICE'. That was really a pleasant surprise, we didn't even teach him this word!! I am still puzzle where he learn it. We decided to let him attend the playgroup there and eventually he speaks more. Maybe because he has so many little friends that. At home, there is only the maid and him when we are at work. So perhaps having playmates to interact and talk to him helps a bit.Hi Mummy Dazzle..
As far as Ive known des no genetic issues on either side of my family which I gas dats make me worry as my 1st dotter is fast beyond the milestone.
Dun mind can share ur tips in \"teaching\" ur son to words?

RE: Classes for 18M with delayed walking & speech
slmkhoo:
What I mentioned is my personal experience. I am no speech expert. Agree that it may still be normal for not being able to pronounce words with 'r' or 'th' at 6 yrs old. Initially I thought this kid was not taught the proper way of pronouncing but I found he still have problem after being taught. In any case, I don't see any harm to bring to the attention his problem so that he can be assessed by the experts/professionals and have it corrected before it is too late. My opinion is that it is best to have it corrected as they start primary school education.Dazzle:
One point to note is that if your son can say a few words, check whether he is able to pronounce clearly words that needs to roll his tongue, eg. words start with 'r' . I came across a P1 kid who has this problem when I was in a volunteer programme to help kids to read. I noticed this and brought it to the attention the person-in-charge and eventually he was enrolled in speech therapy to correct his speech problem.
However, don't panic now as your son is almost certainly not going to be able to pronounce all sounds accurately now. The average age for producing all the speech sounds of English (especially 'r', 'th' and some others) is around 5yo, and not getting them until about 6-7yo is still considered normal. -

My son also does not speak more than 10 vacobs at 18 mths. At first I am like you, kind of worried but my mum said my grandfather only start speaking at 4 yrs old so maybe it runs in the family. Though my grandfather start speaking late in life, he is good with languages. As for my son, true enough, he eventually start speaking more after that. He is 12 now and once in a while, I wish he will talk less. In your case, maybe wait a little while longer instead of sending him to therapy.

RE: Flat Feet Problem
kittycatjiayijun:
I brought my son to Dr Jessica last Nov to assess his flat feet. He always seem to be a bit clumsy - falling down or sprain his legs all the time. I thought it is because of his flat feet but Dr Jessica said he had high arched feet instead. She explained her diagnosis and recommended leg exercises to strengthen the muscles in his feet, as well as making a special insole for him. Though the insole is costly but it is worth it. The insole is based on a mould she made of my son's feet so that it has the right support at the arch. Now my son doesn't complain of pain and his posture has also improved. Most important of all, he doesn't fall down anymore.Hi MMM, Do you have Dr Jesscia's website or contact?
Anyway, I had asked around among my relatives. Their children have visited this clinic or shop at SGH. Their rate are comparable to Dr Jessica's. Quality wise, pretty good (according to my cousin) and the best thing is, their children no longer complain after wearing them.
I want to compare these two before bringing my kids down.
Personally, I find Dr Jessica to be a very nice, soft spoken lady and very professional too. -

Teacher asked ds to re-submit his CCA choices as he said difficult to allocate any of his 6 choices. However, when we login in, we found that 3 of his previous CCA choices did not show full allocation. Is it advisable to select these 3 choices again or better to select 6 other choices?
Maybe the vacancies are for those short-listed during CCA trial. Best option is to seek clarification from teacher. It is a bit unusual that the school is not able to grant at least one of the 6 choices. Do you mind to share what is his choices? -

For lunch, I usually pack either pizza, fried rice or 'chai' pau. Food like egg mayo sandwich or 'siew mai' which spoil faster are for recess only. Pizza are home made, cut into correct portion and put into the freezer. Then the night before I thaw it in the fridge and heat up in toaster in the morning. My son has no problem (food poisoning) with his packed lunch.Dazzle:
I packed recess food and sometimes also include lunch for my son. I think it is better this way because home make food is always better quality and more nutritious than canteen food. Just need to sacrifice about 15 minutes of sleep in the morning to prepare food from my heart. My son likes it as he does not have to queue and have enough time to play with his friends. Only problem is that sometimes he forgot to bring back the food container and sometimes he lost it for good.
I agree, home cook / packed food is better, but I'm a little concern packing him lunch, esp on days when Sch finishes at 1.45pm. The food would hav been in the box in room temp for at least 7 hours. -

Hi verongal,Hi, my DS is in P1 and in same bus as missing boy. He came back much later than usual and bus driver was responsible and combing around for missing boy.
Accidents do happen but driver was good and fast to response (in my opinion).
DS told me that \"everyone was searching for boy\".Dazzle:
A P1 boy from Class 1D was lost today. I am not sure how did the school manage to let him go out from the gate by himself? :x
He was found later at 5.30pm at BISHAN mrt!
This is bad
I must clarify this. The quote you put under my name Dazzle gave the readers the false impression that I wrote it. Pls note that this is a comment posted by KSP riushiki (Page 244). My reply to her posting (also on page 244) is as below:
Please don't be too quick to blame the school until you find out what actually happen. The kid could have left the gate by following other kids or classmates and he has Ezlink card to take MRT to Bishan. Why wasn't the parents or caregiver at school gate to pick up the child? Or why didn't the kid wait for parents/caregiver at the bus stop/gate to bring him home?
The point I am trying to put across is that one should not immediately blame the school without knowing exactly what happen. It is being very unfair to the school, esp. with so many MS parents reading it. Likewise, I hope if you want to quote any comment, please make sure you quote correctly the person who wrote it. -

the kid is in the same class as my boy, to what i heard from my son and souces that the kid takes school bus and he didnt put on the pri 1 tag so no body knows he is pri 1 kid and which bus he should take.
how he landed up in bishan... I guess only the kid knows how he get there.
I guess no point pinpoint the parents / teacher / shool / school bus. just have to keep remind your kid the bus no that he suppose to take, remember your phone no. if all buses left - go the general office to call you (so the kid has to remember your phone no by hard). that is all we can do for now, we can 24/7 look out for the kid neither can the teacher.
However, thought the school bus should do a headcount before he drives off.[/quote]The point I am trying to put across is that one should not immediately blame the school without knowing exactly what happen. It is being very unfair to the school, esp. with so many MS parents reading it. -
