What a good thing that Dr. Chin did for our children !

One rainny day, I walked my daughter to school with an umbrella. Dr Chin was at the school's gate too, sheltering students from the gate to Blk A, back and forth...and he said to me that he is going to put up a shelter.

So he did it ! Bravo, Dr. Chin !

Can understand how you feel 😄 The greatest satisfaction of a mother is to see her child grow and taste the fruits of her own labour. Is she working very hard for the coming exam and is she very stressful now? How do you avoid adding to her stress?

I made sure I don't give her too much stress. In fact, she invited just 2 good friends to celebrate her birthday last wk. The 2 friends mentioned tt their parents have very high expectations of them - be top in sch or even top the psle! Huh!?! Realised and told dd tt her parents don't stress her - she should be thankful. She said she wished we stress her - so she got things to complain abt us! I know I'm far from perfect but it was good to hear tt she got nothing to complain abt us! - that's what I chose to believe 🙂

As far as I'm concern, she's not working very hard - just doing work tt sch tr gives, which is tons. But I didn't bother to buy prelims paper for her and even with the soft copy from Mrs Wong, will not ask her to do too.

She has no tuition except for Berries.

For stress relieve, when she puts in the no. of hrs of work as agreed, she can do whatever she wants - usually reading books, play piano, drums (she discovered she could play the recorder using her piano books) or going online. Btw, she's a book worm and she rather read books than study. I stopped her from borrowing any more story books fro the sch but she received some for her birthday. We still keep our weekly swimming for exercise. No matter how they plead, still have to exercise - good for health. Told her she could only skip the Sunday b4 the Sc paper, since swimming ends late on Sunday.

Am also thinking of bringing her shopping this Fri when 2 younger ones having Chinese enrichment - but I'll leave it to her - to go or to stay at home.

My nephew never likes to study, good in math and sci, languages are on the weaker side.

Just this year, his mum send him to private tuitions and enrichment centre for each subject, eventhough he is good in math and sci.

Probably that is the way the mum see as running for the last lapse. Not sure mummy did the same thing here.
I see him very relax for coming psle...still play games, go outings with parents, can off whole sunday. His parents not able to manage him, so leave him with the tutors and enrichment centre. Now, as it is, schools also gives lots of papers.I guess the fittest survive.

      Hi Joy

It’s quite difficult to say now and most probably we will have answer when our children are on P6 next year.

We decided to get a maid when we had #2...no choice bcos PT maids go home after few hours but still have lots of follow up. I simply hated the idea of having a stranger in the house during those early years.

Hubby got a roomba 3 days ago...so far so good lah, but can't vacuum corners as it's round. So I will need to use my Kaarcher once a month.

      Hi Joy,
I am using Comfort...bought all the different scents.

Just check, we can use quaker oat right?

      ]Hi Joy,

If I remember correctly, ground mixed would consist of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

I used Ground allspice instead by McCormick and here's a link about demerara sugar:

      Hope this helps

Topical science practice books, the cover picture is squirrels. I just tell my students, \"take out your squirrel books....\"

      Hi James,

      Thanks for sharing.

Yes, pract A maybe easier than c.But, challenging yourself and the challenging prob are not ranked in all one section. For instance, u may find a more challenign question in section e instead.

      May I check what is Marshall Cavendish's \"squirrel book\"

      Thanks

[quote=\"James Ang\"]Practice A is easier than Practice C, I suppose that is how they rank the difficulty level.

For science I recommend Casco books and Marshall Cavendish's \"squirrel\" books. Actually science is more about knowledge, an inquisitive and enquiring mind with more reading helps. Keep a pet and grow some plants, and student learns about living things. Sometimes I tell my students about my pet chicken I had when I was in primary school, that I learnt everything about chicken because of my pet, but eventually my pet ended up on the dining table because my mother said that we couldn't keep an adult chicken in a HDB flat! Nowadays when people mention chicken, children think of only chicken drumstick. And news mentioned that some American kids think that a chicken has 6 legs because chicken drumsticks are sold in packs of six at the supermarket.

      Hello James,

      Well said.

I must say that the A star booklets that u recommended is awesome.I was intending to let my girl to try it at the end of pri five but starts early cos of your recommendations. The questions are of slight twist compared to the generic past year pri five exam papers that she is having now.The only drawback about this booklets is that not all solutions are well presented. As it is , there are many ways to solve the same math question.Maybe another thing about this booklet is that the questions did not arrange into level of difficulty. Its all lump together. This is just one cent of my thought.

Am wondering do u have something similar that is equally good for science?Assessment book based?thank you.

      Cheers
      Joy
[quote=\"James Ang\"]My comment may be echoed by many, that P5 is a big change from P4. There are more problem sums for P5 Maths accounting 60% and can be solved using calculators, and with some students experiencing a big plunge in marks from 99 in P4 to 60+ in P5. More core science topics and concepts are covered in P5; electricity, cells, reproduction, respiration, transport systems. P5 is like a crucial growing up year to prepare for PSLE in P6.
