And the Bonus (+1/2/3) Points doesn't apply to all. You may be graded Distinction / Merit / Pass on your cert, butonly Pupils in the top 30% of the PSLE cohort who take HCL will be awarded Bonus Points.

To take HCL at secondary school:
•\tTop 10% of PSLE cohort
•\tTop 11% - 30% of PSLE cohort with A* in CL or minimally Merit in HCL

Mylulaoshi, just to clarify...
Based on what u said, \"merit\" printed on the psle cert still not confirmed on the +2 points yet since we still dont know whether u r the top 30% ?

Then how and when do i know i am withinn the top 30%? When choosing the sec sch (SAP) i cannot add in the +2 yet ?

I thought once the cert print merit for HCL auto qualify for +2 and can be sure that the child's t score is within top 30% of cohort?

Hope I can help clear some doubt with regards to your child's bonus HCL points. In my son's Eligibility Letter, it is stated under item 1 (a):
Special Assistance Plan (SAP) Schools - Your child/ward is eligible for bonus points for admission to the SAP schools. Bonus points of 3, 2 or 1 will be given for grades of Distinction, Merit or Pass respectively in Higher Chinese Language for admission to SAP schools. (unquote)
That's not the whole para but I think that's the part that matters. To be clear, this is the letter that was given together with the S1 Option Form (both the Eligibility Letter and S1 Option Form from the MOE were originally sealed and you had to tear off the sides) that was distributed to your child together with his result slip and PSLE Cert.
fumble-bee, thks for highlighting....i will check out the letter...

• RE: Higher Chinese Bonus Points (+3, +2, +1)

Pls correct my understanding on the bonus points for HCL:

To be awarded the bonus point (+3, +2 & +1) for HCL,

First condition MUST fufill..

The child's Total psle aggregate score is within top 30% of the whole cohort, otherwise no matter how good she fare for HCL she wont get the bonus? For example:

If a child get 85 marks for HCL (grading is > 80%) but unfortunately her tscore is not the top 30% of the cohort.. what will her cert reflect for HCL? The grade of 85 marks? Cannot show \"Distinction\" right since she doesnt qualify
top 30% rule?)

On the same basis, if the certificate shows distinction, merit or pass for HCL, this confirm the child is within top 30% of the cohort..and the +3, +2 & +1 is straightaway applicable?

Very confused by the system :?:

Are the 3 figures "lower" "median" and "upper" referring to the 25%, 50% and 75% tile of the students psle t score result; or

lower = lowest psle score,
upper = highest psle score

Lol, my hubby was telling me not to go..he said later my gal will feel embarass in front of her friends..but from the responses, i think most parents will tag along so she wont be the odd one out... i will definitely be there to \"cheer for her\" :xedfingers: good luck to all

On a side note, how will the results be given to the child? Is it still must tear the proforated slip or results (i.e grade and t-score) straightaway can see from the certificate? Does the school alteady have 1st hand news on the results b4 11am tomorrow?? Boy i am getting nervous now already... :imdrowning:

When MOE return the PSLE results of all P6 students to each school's Principal (P), the first thing P does is to compile following :-
- tabulate average (mean), std deviation, Quality percentage passes of the 2017 P6 cohort in their own school, against National average, etc.

- tabulate the number of P6xers who scored 250 & above, scored 260 to 270, scored 271 to 280 (if any), scored above 280 (if any).

- tabulate the number or percentage of P6xers gain admission into Secondary 1 (Express or Normal Academic or Normal Techical) stream.

Above info : P would have them, at his / her finger tips.

Then, tomorrow around 10.30 am to 11 am :
some schools will ask the P6xers to go back their own P6 classroom collect results slip, while other schools will make their P6xers all gather inside the school hall, sit according to their own P6 classes, before Form Tr give out results slip one by one, while parents sit anxiously at the back of the hall, awaiting their child's results.

P will then address everyone, inside the school hall, giving info like how is the overall performance this year like, give some statistics, announce whats the percentage going to Sec 1 Express / NA / NT stream, etc

P will then tell everyone : how many students scored 250 & above.

Sometimes, in some schools, P will also call out names : of those who scored 250 & above, one by one, specifically from which P6 class, to go up the stage, to take a group photograph of all those who scored 250 & above, from 2017 PSLE batch. As each name is being called out, as they go up the stage, you can count silently yourself : how many P6 students from your own school, have scored 250 & above?
If your child's name have been called out by P to go up the stage, u can snaoshot the group photo, for precious memory to remember.

There will be some who rejoice, some even cry with tears because they did not expect to do so well (an unexpected surprise), while on the other hand, there are some others who cried because they are disappointed.

Whatever it is, hug them and praise them, for all their hard work & effort put in

:thankyou: phtthp for the \"walk-thru\" of the grand event tomorrow..really appreciate it..

Will u all accompany ur kid to collect his/her result or wait at home? I am still wondering whether to follow or not.. :?

This is probably the only time parents will and can go....the kids will not want parents to be there at O and A levels results release dates. 🙂
