If it’s shampoo for children use, I guess should be fine. I do it twice a day. After that blow dry with hair dryer at a semi low heat away from the scalp.

    • RE: Rated S for Scary - About fengshui and supernatural stuff

      MMM:
Actually, it's not a temple. I've never been there from what I heard it is in a flat at bukit batok. This monk is a local but understudy at the thailand temples. My mum and her friends followed him to his temple in Thailand before. My mum said his power is quite high level already. In my son's case, I can only say he is really effective.

Based on my impression from what my mum told me, he is not those those who charge exorbitantly or rather expect a payment. In my mum's case, she simply just pack ang pow and he will then use the $ for donation at temples. Also, she told me that there are wayward kids who are staying with him as their parents cannot control them. They eventually turn well. Also, his mother is already 100 yrs old so he mentioned before that when his mother passes on, he will no longer stay in Spore.

I will try to check with my mum and PM you once I've the details.
I have also engaged a monk few years back to bless my house. Not sure if we are refering to the same monk. He also a very old age mother. His house is open to public where you can go in anytime to pray or to talk to him. Anyway when he came to my place, as we drove into the park way, he commented peaceful land. I was relieved. Even if he said it's not peaceful, also can't be help since already bought the house. So he did a simple blessing ceremony to the house and that's about it.

A friend of mine told their office also engage this monk for his service cos their production department seems to have lots of problem. However, my friend told me they stop using his service because he didn't do a good job. When things like that happen, the production dept. gets into deeper problem esp.when the monk sort of like entanganise the spirits.

There are wondering spirits everywhere. Sometimes they meant no harm. Some of them perhaps didn't even know they are dead so they linger around the place and continues to wander around... We have our space to live in, They have theirs as well.. So sometimes if they are not really disturbing us too much, just let it be might be better for both sides.

    • RE: All About Grooming & Encouraging Good Reading Habits

I find this thread SUPER useful! Thanks to all for being so generous sharing informative infor here. I thought people would be so kiasu (since this is a ks forum) to lose out that they would be unwilling to share but it happened the other way round.

My dad is in the book business so I have lots of books to read when I was little. However, I never really like reading and I lose out alot! I only love pictorial books which is a shame. I couldn’t focus whenever I read and my mind would soon wonder else where…

I knew what I have lost out so I’m making sure my child doesn’t follow my footstep. She is coming to 2 and everyday I’ll try to read to her as often as I could, as many books as I can. At the moment, I will read books to her by this author – Julia Donaldson. I only buy her books if the illustartor is Axel Scheffler.

      1. Room on the broom
      2. Gruffalo
      3. The Spiffiest Giant in Town ( in mandarin)
      5. The Snail and the Whale

On other time, my gal will choose to flip/browse on books suitable around her age.

I have also send her to playgroup to get some exposure with other children. They teach phonics too. And Tamarind has been really helpful and her blog is really impressive! She really has a big heart sharing all these with us. (people she doesn’t even know)

On the Mandarin side, I recently bought 1 set of books from Growing Up Fun. There are 12 copies in the box together with 10 flash card ( 我 你 他 要 etc)

      Each book cover topics like
      1. My family
      2. My body
      3. Colours
      4. Food
      5. Fruits
      6. Numbers
      7. Scenic etc

The 1st page will be a chinese word then the next page will show the meaning. So my child can get to ‘recognise’ the chinese word. I’m not sure if it’s useful but will try to get different types of books/reading material for her exposure.

Now that I read from another thread that parents introduce San Zi Jing, it would definitely be worth while having a look at the popular bookshop.

      cheers!

      Hi

Chiefy Kiasu, is the DVD+book you bought for older children??
For 2yrs old, what would be suitable? Would the san zi jing be too ‘heavy’ for a 2 yr old? Thanks.

    • RE: Pocket money

I think it’s a good idea to check how much the food cost in the canteen before deciding. Looks like a dollar or 2 sounds rather reasonable.

I remember I was given 1 dollar or more when I was in P1. By P3, I was able to treat my classmates drinks. Also, kept going to the bookshop to buy cute cute stuffs. Something parents might want to keep a look out, heh heh…

Ha, I still remember the key chain I bought when I was in P1 cost me 60cents.

    • RE: When your child encounters a difficult word

Thanks for sharing… I also thought writing down the new word somewhere first and continue with the reading. Otherwise it really does kill the joy of reading…

The word bank book (like old phone book) is a great idea. Also, once they fill up the entire book, wow that also means they have learnt that many words.
