RE: DSA 2014
firefly38:
@firefly38. How many COs or WLs sent to MSers (math) from RI last years?
@ leooel & layperson.. Did your boys DSA to RI last year, and got rejected by RI ?
Tell us honestly.. A simple YES or NO ??
Tell us honestly..0, 1, or 2??

That is why no one is complaining any unequal treatment about NUSH.leooel:
I actually admire the DSA rules of NUSH. It puts GEPpers and MSErs into the same camp, and chose the most excellent ones.
Can RI do the similiar things?
My GEPPER has top 10 awards in both RIPMWC, SMOPS, Gold awards etc. I still all for equality for MS for my above reasons.
Some people insist they know better or my views are wrong. I shall refrain from contributing to this discussion if it is unhelpful.
How are we suppose to teach about diversity to a child or advocate diversity in school when there are forumers here who can't accept a different opinion, fact or suggestions than what they are itching to know?
Have a good day everyone and good luck. :xedfingers:
GEPpers and MSers should 比试比试 before they receive COs. -

No problem, I think if he apply RI. Some parents have said: To boys, GEP actually is the entrance examinations for RI, the DSA exams for RI.
may I add - it hasn't been proven that my 2 children met with diff DSA results, my DS may be a gepper but who is to guarantee that he will be given a CO , we are all still waiting anxiously....but of course I don't deny that I wish that my DS will meet with a different outcome from his elder sister

The Kiasuparents of MSers always wish give their children some hope. Actually, it almost is zero, we all know.leooel:
IF RI only hope to collect its GEPpers via DSA, why not abolish its DSA to all MSers?
For the same reason why even when some parents feel that MS has nil / limited chance to get a CO, they would still apply? For their own good reasons they would do or don't? -

Honestly I dunno how the DSA selection process works for each school, I wont go to length to analyse the trend to find out etc. My approach is simple or you may say naïve, I tell both my DC to apply for DSA to dream schools, if suceessful, great, if not yes wallow in disappointment but only for a while and work hard in PSLE. If still cannot get in, too bad lor, v sad but life still has to go on, I will then tell DC to work hard to excel further in new sec school.
I am not well informed to discuss on the selection system etc. I just posted my last comment here cos I felt compelled that we have to be fair to the geppers and their parents. I feel that many times, Geppers are often made to look like \"villians\" who stole opportunities of others but we failed to remember that these geppers are just like any all 12 year old MS students trying their best to excel in whatever they are doing. And don't forget among the many 'successful' gepperd, there are also those who don't get any offers or even WL from DSA or there are also those who do not do well in PSLE. And this is a fact.

1. Get your kid into GEP. If cannot get in, how? Complain that GEP kids got in cos of prep classes? Again, blame culture. Please don't.
2. Excel in sports or some talents, including academic that RI values. If in the end, still don't get DSA, then RI doesn't value you enough. How? Complain again? Please don't.
3. Do well in PSLE. Sure to get into this amazing school that die die must get into.

This story shows your two similiar excellent children met very different DSA results.
I have 2 kids, elder one from MS and younger one from GEP. with my elder one, I had no idea what a GEP program is like, I did thot that maybe they do have certain advantage but my approach is since my DD isn't in GEP, I will focus what is best for her and work around the MS focus, I encouraged her to DSA for 2 schools but she failed. I spoke to her after that and she worked hard and got into her school with v much hardwork on her own.
when my younger one got into GEP, it was an eye opener for us. It is a tough program, do you know how many projects and papers they have to submit on top of their daily schoolwork. But I can see that with DS character, he is happier and learning more in a GEP than in MS when he was considered to a naughty boy. Granted that some parents may help in their kids' projects but I am sure that there are also many Geppers like my DS who does everything on his own. Please give some credit to the hardwork of these kids. Their schoolwork is really challenging and it isn't easy to achieve more than 80%, it takes hardwork and lots of time management. Don't forget that these geppers only really start to get ready for PSLE in the 2nd term of school. i am not saying that the Geppers have it tougher than MS but from my experience with my 2 kids, both MS and GEP have the different good and bad.
Here, the main problem is RI tried to collect GEppers as many as possible via DSA rules. Its COs hope given math MSers almost is zero. I wish it adjust its hidden rules, and become more fair to both GEPpers and MSers. More than 50% male GEPpers went to RI, and most of them enter RI via DSA. RI should give excellent MSers hope in DSA.
Now its rule actually waste time and cost for both RI and MSers' parents, and possibly harms many MSers. -

Last year dsa results started streaming in fr 11/8. There was the haze problem last year and I think interviews were delayed (from what I gathered in the 2013 thread). I thought this year results will be earlier without the haze problem.....
Yup, they generally sent COs and WLs at first, then sent reject emails.
