Thank you parents for the feedback. Actually my question is how much is the class fund that your dd contribute every month? (not about whether to give note or not ^-^. Of course I fully understand we have to pay notes...lol)

$10 for each collection (not each month), depending how fast the fund runs out ...
For eg. for my Sec 3 girl, last week alone already used up $13 ...

Shouldn't the parents and students be happy getting notes from their teachers ...

For assessment sheets, I think the teachers should have a budget to print these stuff.

Notes, nicely printed and bind will cost money. I find it quite normal to pay for notes. Last time uni days we also spend money to photocopy from library. If teachers don't give note, then using plain paper to take notes will also cost money, not to mention the ink used.

Surely we have to pay for printed notes. Especially for maths, i would say the more the merrier because there are many exercises for the girls to go through ...If the teacher stops giving out notes, then the parents and students will start to compare how come the neighbouring class is getting more notes than them and the complaint starts again ... It will keep the teachers very busy ...

      Hi parents,

Is it a \"norm\" to pay for every single notes from the subject teachers? The lesson has started, & so far DD' class was told to pay for the photocopy notes for History, Science & Math (with Math the most). The FT & Seniors had actually suggested $10/student every month for the Class Fund, & the money contributed to the Treasury will be paid for the class' notes. However, it seem the money collected was not enough as the Teacher kept asking for money for their notes. It has therefore created some unhappiness from the parents & students. As I understand the students will need to pay for some notes, but may I ask the parents/students here to advise usually how much is the class fund every month each child has to contribute in order to consider a \"norm\" practice at NYGH. Thank you.

Any parents or seniors from nygh advise what is LeAP? How often do they need to stay back in sch?

After the program, will they be given leadership position in sch?

      Thank u

Hi barney8, I may not have taken part in the LeAP program, but I do know that leadership position isn't granted after the program. The LeAP program is mainly to expose secondary 2 students in the program to the activities in which the student councillors take part in. Hope this helps!

Hi Barney8, are u referring to LEAP 2.0?

Hi! I'm new to the forum and learning more on the DSA program.

I've read through the thread and seems the recommended time to start preparing for DSA is when the child is in P4. I'm just thinking; since there's a 4-year or 6-year commitment from the child to stay in the same CCA, would it make more sense to prepare the child in that particular activity earlier than P4? Especially I also read that it'll be more ideal to have represented the school, be a medallist between P4-P6 and so forth. My thoughts are that the child may need to be exposed to a variety of activities from a younger age in order to determine the one he or she is likely to stay committed to by P4 and not regret the choice made by the time P6 comes. Or am I thinking too much / too KS? Appreciate some views on this, pls. TIA

      Hi Sunkissy,

I would advise you :\"Let your DC progress at his/her own pace. Unless your dc have train Gymnastic/Ballet/Music etc since at the very young age of K1/K2, like you really have a plan for the child & he/she also talented at that young age that can be groom to DSA route. Or if not, most childs just excel in the later part when they join primary school, found new love for the CCA/particular subject, & just naturally excel in it, & most of the times parents then decide to DSA via that CCA/Academic. Either you plan very very early or just wait & see how your DC progress when at Primary school.

But 1 impt thing to note is, it is highly encourage that your dc to participate actively in school events, & be leadership domain - Monitor/Prefect/Members of Class committee etc. Even if you decide or not for DSA, this participation comes in handy. 1st for experience, 2nd for DSA future purposes. Nowadays, in order to stand out from the crowd - DSA via any domain, schools also look into Leadership & CIP hours that the students involve.

I don't agree with the above ... Not true la ... You are adding more stress to parents ... lol ...

May I know how do you conclude that \"majority is ok\"? :?

I was referring to my girl's school ... based on statistic ... if majority can get average B4 or better, it should be ok, right?

i took grab today. the uncle told me he has 2 kids...one in Year 4 taking O level Chinese. he regrets letting his daughter enter IP school because it is painful not knowing if she will do well for her A levels. it is study study study all day...with no life. for his younger one, he will not allow him to enter IP school.

I hope it's because he knows the son will not cope, not just based on the sister. Some kids are suited for the programme, and it would be a pity not to let them experience it if they can benefit from it. I have a daughter who has thrived in the IP, enjoyed it very much, and has not had to \"study study study all day...with no life\". But I would not have put my other daughter in the programme as she would have not coped, and she has thrived in a different system.

If you don't mind, which school is this? Sounds like a very positive environment![/quote]NYGH
