 Nan Hua Primary is great!! At least parents applying to the sch can get the updates from the sch website itself.. If only all schs are like Nan Hua!!

Agree. Can help anxious parents to guage their decision. Sch admin also not so hectic need to pick up many calls from the public.

Thank you! So what is the best way to register at a school but withdraw and register at a new school if the walk-in applicants start adding up quickly on day 3. Practically speaking. Register at one school first but then pull the registration if looking unlikely to land a spot — and have a parent at the other school with the documents ready to register there? How long would that registration process take with the school admin? 10 minutes?

I did the “withdrawal” method and regretted, because it takes time to process the withdrawal. Just wait at both schools (1 parent each) before deciding, then do the application at your chosen school. Give yourself time for travel in case the parent holding the originals needs to rush over. Usually 3pm is already cutting it a bit tight.

Hi Zac's mum,
In the end did u managed to get into the 're-registered' sch?
This strategy is really heart attack becoz what happens if after u withdrew from sch 1 then travel back to sch 2. During this time lapse the number of applicants at sch 2 might increase within that 1 to 2hrs?

Youngatheartss:
Hi,

Im new to this forum and im in a tight dilemna. I have alumni with Kuo Chuan and need to travel less than 35mins via CCL to get to the school. I have 2 schools within 15-20mins which are Queenstown or NewTown. Other better schools not at option for me as I am within 1-2km so not chance in balloting. i also have another child born in 2015. :?

I am thinking to put my child in KCPS but Im just concerned the travelling be too much but i do not have good options nearby.
Hi youngheartss,

All of us can give u different opinions but ultimately u r the one deciding. Here are my take on it:

1. I have few relatives who r teachers who taught popular n neighbourhood ones. Their advise is unless u koe the capability of your child that he or she is confidence in getting top 2 classes every yr in a neighbourhood sch. Else most of the average classes majority head to Normal stream. They usually appointment HODs or experience teachers to top 2 classes. The average classes have no motivation to strive. For popular schs is not so stress, your child can still be in average class n u be assured, becoz of the standard set and foundation imparted alr. Most usually still head to Express/Special. Think of the \"probability\" game.

2. Depends on your child's character. If he or she is a follower or is matured enough. The profile of their classmates in popular n neighbourhood schs r different. The later mostly from broken homes or disadvantage families. In terms of behaviour or studies is not so good. So if your child is those easily follow pple, e.g. see his classmate bo chap don't wanna workhard, only aim for passing, no aspirations in life, a child who has np strong willed would also grow in to these mindset. Of coz those popular schs also have bad behaviour kids but their naughtiness is smartwise-notty type. Not stupid-notty way.

3. There is a reason why some schs r in the red some pple totally avoid which only get filled up by Foreigners in phase 3. Why our own Ministers also applied their kids to popular schs. The hint not obvious?

4. I am also staying near your area. NT and QT is not favourable in terms of env. Unless u do not have high expectations for your child in the future.

5. KC is a christian mission sch, their env and teachers r more conductive n loving.

6. Check if there is sch bus service to KC. Taking Sch bus is not so tiring compared to taking the CL unless your plc is beside the MRT. I stay in QT area my child sch in bukit timah his sch bus comes 6.15am he reaches home 2.30pm. If have CCA his sch bus is back by 4.30pm. My neighbour child's is studying in a pouplar sch near my area (which i cannot get in) his bus comes 6.35am and reaches home 2.15pm. The difference in timing is not such a big deal if u compare nearby and further.

7. U have priority in phase 2A, this yr is Dragon yr, pple will \"up\" their game n secure for an earlier phase if possible.

8. Have u thought of putting your child in KC first then in p3 apply for a transfer to a better sch area your area becoz p3 there be lots of movements/vacancies due to streaming.

All the best!

Hi,

Every year Kisau will provide an analysis after every phase ends. Phase 1 ended, will we be expecting any anaylsis abt it? Even after having a few strategies in mind, we r still extremely anxious. 😉
Hi KS parents, need some advice on P1 registration for my boy in 2019...

We live in West Coast area and have 3 options currently.
1) My old school Keng Seng Primary School was merged and I believe with now Gan Eng Seng Primary so we should be eligible for Phase 1A
2) Nan Hua Primary (within 1 km)
3) Qifa Primary (within 1 km)

What would you do? What would be your strategy with the options above?
Does anyone has feedback on Nan Hua & Qifa and how do they compare to each other?
Our preference is to get him in Nan Hua but it is very competitive.
Appreciate any advices!!
Thanks in advance!

you are staying in west coast.
gan eng seng is in bukit merah while you stay in west coast...so you will be under Phase 2A2 if you are alumni. distance wise more than 2km.

nan hua would definitely face stiff competition under under 2C within 1km...you can still try. balloting is guaranteed.
have a backup school.

Hi, thanks for reply.
Is there any \"strategy\" I should take in the regustration choices? Do I go for phase2c for NH and back up Qifa? Or do I go straight to Qifa for phase2C? How is GES compared to Qifa for example? And how is Qifa compared to NH?
Many thanks...
In your case, better to go for NH as u are within 1km. Better to try then not trying at all and give up. When u try at least still have chance. Qifa as a back up for 2CS, even if balloting at 2CS citizen still high chance. GESPS is not very popular choice in Bukit Merah area. If u notice every yr there are still places left in 2C and 2CS. So this should be your last back up. In 2CS may as well consider Clementi Pri instead of GESPS as it is neaer to u. In terms results they r on par but one is so much nearer for the child.

Jaen:
anyone staying in the south-west? i checked the school bus listing, but the seem to only serve the east. if not staying in those listed areas does that mean that you’ll need to arrange own transport? we’re alumni and plan to send our child to tns, exploring what options are available.

Travelling for a young child is very tiring. And TN is a good school so not advisable to give it out since u can go in phase 2A. For your case why not take advantage of the current low rental market. Rent out your current place, then rent a small condo in the east near TN. So CCA days is also taken care of.

Chief, why this year no sound from you or your KSP staff??

You have some competition this year. Straits Times has come up with an oversubscription risk calculator: https://graphics.straitstimes.com/STI/STIMEDIA/Interactives/2018/06/ds-p1-registration/index.html
Hi,
I found Mr Kiasu's link for oversubscribed 2018 here:
https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/article/2018-p1-registration-oversubscription-risk/

Does the Straits Times meteorology same as Mr Kiasu? Have u all compared? I hope that they took into account the Dragon yr # of babies, the added/reduced intake for each schools.

Hi All,

My boy is due to register for P1 this year. We shortlisted Gan Eng Seng (2C <1km), New Town (2A2) and Queenstown (2C 1-2km). Principles have changed within these few years but didn't notice much positive or negative comments. Hence, would like to tap onto your knowledge to share your view or feedback on these 3 schools. Thanks in advance.
My relative is teaching in GESPS the advise is unless i can guarantee that the child is able to go into top 2 classes every yr. Else the trend is other average classes majority go to normal stream in sec. They usually get only HODs to teach the top classes. So if u r in an average class, not much to grow.

As for New Town and Queenstown, I have no idea internally whats going on. However, from observation the 2 schools around that area has rental 1/2 rooms flats. So it depends on if u r particular with the profile of your child's classmates.
